Why is my 3-5 month old kitten not playing and losing weight?

This behaviour could be due to fever, pain, intestinal worms and more. Please de-worm your kittens if they have not been dewormed in the last few days. If it does not make any difference, please take him to your local vets for an appointment.

Given her age there are several things that cross my mind, but a common issue in these young kittens is parasites. Sometimes their parasite burden can be so high that they cannot maintain adequate glucose levels, and also can become uninterested in food and sometimes will begin vomiting. I would recommend deworming her. Also, it would be important to rule out signs of infection and/or sepsis. I think she needs to be seen by a veterinarian right away. Such a young and small animal can deteriorate quickly even with easy to resolve issues like gastrointestinal parasites.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I would deworm him. Intestinal parasites are almost always present in young animals as they are passed from the milk. He could be getting more lean but this could also be an early warning sign that something is going on. I would collect a stool sample and have him seen for his first vet visit. The Vet can do an exam, test his stool, feline leukemia and FIV test him and consider giving his first vaccination. I wish you and Noah the very best!

Sudden weight loss is always a very big warning light that should not be taken lightly, it's usually a sign of an internal disease that needs to be investigated, i strongly recommend taking Winter to the vet in order to get it checked, he will need to have a blood test done and possibly an xray as well in order to attempt to diagnose the reason for these symptoms.

Usually kittens are rather playful at this age, but occasionally some are not very playful. It's good to check that she's not unhealthy though, because this can cause a decrease in activity. Check her gums - see if they are pink or white. If they are white, then he may have anemia. Check the belly - see if it's tucked in or is it round and distended. If it's round and distended, then he may have worms or other intestinal diseases. Most kittens get worms from their mothers, so if he has never had deworming medication, then it would be good to do this. Make sure he is eating and drinking well. Also make sure he doesn't have diarrhea or vomiting. These things can indicate that there is a disease causing him to be less active. It's very hard to know what is wrong based on these very general symptoms, I would expect a kitten this age to want to play all the time so you are right to be worried, my recommendation would be to have him checked by your vet ASAP

Absolutely. If she is ordinarily playful, normal kitten behavior, her lethargy may be a sign of illness or injury. Your vet will do an exam, probably labwork, possibly x-rays if indicated, and based on these results will be better able tot ell you what is wrong and how best to treat it.
