My kitten has watery, bloody poop & swollen anus. What should I do?

If he wasn't weaned and is now eating a kitten food, that could be causing the bloody diarrhea. I agree, it does look like his anus is protruding a bit. Given that he's eating and drinking and otherwise acting normally, it's fine to wait until the morning to wait to take him into a vet. He should see one first thing in the morning to get treated. Tonight, keep feeding him and giving him water, and keep him warm and comfortable. I hope this helps!

Even though you do not seen worms, it is possible that Cupcake still has gastrointestinal parasites causing her diarrhea with blood. GI parasites are one of the most common causes of diarrhea in kittens, and are easily treatable with deworming medication from your veterinarian. Other possibilities include viral infections and/or dietary indiscretion (eating something she shouldn't have). Regardless, I recommend having her evaluated by your veterinarian so he/she can perform an analysis of her feces to determine if and what parasites are present, and prescribe the appropriate treatment. I do NOT recommend purchasing products from either a pet store or food store, as these medications are not regulated and/or proven to be safe and effective for use especially in young kittens. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Fluffy! Fluffy is most likely having diarrhea. The mucous and blood indicated colon inflammation. Due to the blood and Fluffy being so small, I recommend you have her seen by a Vet today before the weekend. I recommend bringing a stool sample (if she passed actual feces). Possible causes are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, food allergy or intolerance. For a kitten so small I worry about dehydration and secondary infections. It is best to have her seen today. I hope this helps and I wish Fluffy a speedy recovery!

My biggest immediate concern would be for intestinal parasites. Most kittens have them, and if she hasn't seen a vet yet and been dewormed, she needs to. She's suffering pretty significant fluid losses for a tiny creature. Make an appointment tomorrow, and bring a stool sample with you, so that the type of parasite can be determined and appropriate treatment started.

Hi there and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. There are many causes to diarrhea with a red perhaps inflamed anus. Parasites could be the cause or a bacterial or viral infection. I would take your kitten to your veterinarian soon for a fecal test where they will test his stool for parasites and bacteria and/or certain viruses that could be causing the diarrhea. They may Rx a medication to your kitten depending on what the veterinarian discovers on the fecal test. Best of luck! I hope this has helped.

I am very sorry to hear that Petunia is experiencing this issue, I am sure it is unsettling. From what you are describing, a soft bowel movement which becomes liquid and has fresh blood in it, it sounds as though Buddy has colitis, or inflammation of the last portion of the large intestines. There are several causes of colitis in cats, ranging from bacterial infections, parasite infestations, IBD, or ingestion of contaminated food. Since you have only noticed one such episode I would continue to monitor Petunia at home for the time being. Provide a bland diet of boiled boneless chicken breast for a few meals, then switch to a sensitive stomach diet preferable by royal canin or hills science diet as these two brands are veterinarian tested and approved. I would also suggest using a broad spectrum de-worming treatment. Yes, suddenly changing food can cause diarrhea, and if the diarrhea caused a lot of irritation, it could cause redness or swelling. Keeping the area clean with a pet/baby wipe and returning Quinn back to his normal food is best. If the diarrhea continues for more than a few days, he seems in distress, the swelling is really bad or he can't go potty at all, vet care is best.
