What to do if my young kitten is vomiting and very quiet?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 1 month and 22 days old

Hi, I've got a kitten less than 2 months old, it started vomiting around an hour ago , it vomited twice and currently sitting still and very quiet. is there anything I can give ? is this normal?

Vomiting is never normal but it does happen fairly often to kittens. The most common cause of vomiting is eating too much food. Some kitten are just greedy, they eat more than they need. Kittens also vomit because they ate something that they normally don't get ( eating human food, scrapes, scavenging in general).
Shadow's problem should settle down by itself. You should withhold food for Shadow for 4-5 hrs and then offer very small amounts every 1-2hrs. He also should be offered only small amounts of water as drinking plenty of water will probably trigger another vomit.
Some kittens may vomit because of intestinal worms or gut infections. In that case, they often develop diarrhea, become lethargic and go completely off food. If your Shadow is showing these symptoms, you should take him to your local vets for a check.

Hello. I am sorry that Shadow isn't feeling well. If he is having runny stools and vomiting, a kitten that small can get dehydrated very quickly. If he isn't eating and is weak then it is very important for him to see a vet right away in order to make sure he isn't severely dehydrated. If the vomiting continues you will need to have him to a vet as well. He could have a virus, a severe worm burden, or an obstruction. If he will still eat and play well, the first step would be to get him dewormed, as the diarrhea and vomiting could be from worms. If you can get him checked by a vet that would be the best thing for Shadow. Best of luck with him!

You can go to any pet store or even wal mart to get a dewormer for cats. Make sure it contains praziquantel as this covers tapeworms also. You can also get a feline probiotic to start mixing in the food to help with the diarrhea. Try to get him to keep water or chicken broth or tuna juice in him to help him stay hydrated until you can take him to. Avet in Monday for further care

Poor Bella! It's not normal for a kitten to throw up, but you can try a home remedy first before having to take her into the vet. I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. This vomiting could be caused by a GI illness, eating something rotten, pancreatitis, or a foreign body. Should Bella need to see a vet, the vet can diagnose the cause of the vomiting and can treat her for it.

My new kitten is vomiting after adoption. What steps should I take?

If the energy level is normal for this kitten and he is acting otherwise fine, I would continue to monitor and maybe syringe feed some water if he is not drinking enough to help prevent dehydration. If he is lethargic and continues to vomit, then I would take him in to be looked at by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I recommend getting your cat seen by your vet or an emergency vet right away. Cats need to eat, if they go more than a few days without eating they can develop serious liver problems which can be fatal. Continuous vomiting for so many hours is very exhausting and dehydrating, so your kitten likely needs some medical intervention to get better. Your vet will do an exam, labwork, possibly x-rays, and based on these results, your vet will have a better idea what is going on and can better advise you about treatment options.

It sounds as Oliver is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

My month-old kitten keeps throwing up dry food. Is this normal?

Hello, sorry to hear about Silk. It is not normal for a kitten to be vomiting frequently. However, some kittens may vomit if they eat too much or too fast, although still, this should not be frequently. If Silk is vomiting often, I would worry that he may have some kind of infections such as a parasite or an abnormality in his GI tract. Other things such as an allergy to his dry food may also be considered. The best option would be to have Silk evaluated by a veterinarian to ensure he does not have an infectious or congenital disease that needs to be addressed with something else besides a diet change. Your simplest solution would be only feed him wet food. However, you can try a different kind of dry food which doesn't contain the same ingredients as the one you're currently feeding. Again, this would neglect any condition which may require more aggressive medical therapy. Hope this helps and best of luck.

My 4-month-old kitten keeps vomiting and has diarrhea. What's wrong?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I recommend taking Shiro back to the vet with a fresh stool sample to check for intestinal parasites. If normal I would recommend an abdominal X-ray to rule out a foreign body. It may not be the food and there could be something serious. He should not be vomiting daily and I worry he could dehydrate.
