My young kitten is vomiting and dry heaving. Is it an emergency?

I recommend getting your cat seen by your vet or an emergency vet right away. Cats need to eat, if they go more than a few days without eating they can develop serious liver problems which can be fatal. Continuous vomiting for so many hours is very exhausting and dehydrating, so your kitten likely needs some medical intervention to get better. Your vet will do an exam, labwork, possibly x-rays, and based on these results, your vet will have a better idea what is going on and can better advise you about treatment options.

I am afraid this is an emergency. You will need to take your kitten to a veterinarian out of hours clinic now. Ivory could have an intestinal obstruction having ingested a toy or other foreign body. The fact that he feels cold to touch is also a serious concern. Please take Ivory to a vet now.

I think you can safely wait until morning unless the clinical signs seem to persist or get worse. Small cats can definitely dehydrate or become hypoglycemic rather quickly, so persistent vomiting and diarrhea can become a problem. I would also consider separate the sick kitten from the healthy two until you have become certain that there is no infectious or contagious disease. Hope this helps!

I'm really concerned about Des wobbling like she is drunk, as that can be a sign of something serious like getting into something toxic. You can probably wait until the morning to take him in to your regular vet. Just try to keep him calm and comfortable until then the best you can. If he starts crying out in pain for no reason, is vomiting without stopping, or having any bloody vomitus or diarrhea you should take him in tonight. Otherwise he will likely be ok until morning. Oh dear - poor Mickey! I agree that it's very concerning that she's been vomiting so much today and hasn't been eating or drinking. It's less surprising to me that she isn't using the litter box right now -- remember, nothing going in means nothing coming out. Given her young age, the most common cause for vomiting with a loss of appetite is a gastrointestinal obstruction or blockage from eating something she shouldn't have. As a result, I would strongly recommend taking Mickey to an emergency vet right away for evaluation. They'll be able to examine her and perform any necessary diagnostics (namely x-rays) to help get to the bottom of this issue. If Mickey is diagnosed with an obstruction, she'll need surgery to remove the blockage. In this situation, it's best not to delay treatment. I hope that she makes a speedy recovery!
