My kitten has soft orange stools after cow's milk. What should I feed?

I recommend to have Milly examined by the veterinarian and bring in a fresh stool sample to have her checked for parasites. Cats who have been outside a lot often have worms and protozoal parasites (some of which can spread to humans). Diet changes can also cause diarrhea. Lastly, kittens can be prone to bacterial over growth and any diarrhea lasting longer than 48 hours generally benefits from an antibiotic. You can try feeling Milly a bland diet. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. A good diet in general is Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible and you can transition her to this diet once she is feeling better. I hope Milly starts feeling better quickly! Kitties can't digest human milk well. This is likely what gave your little one diarrhea. I would switch back to the KMR and start mixing in small amounts of wet kitty starter formula food. You can also mix in 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) to help harden her stools and continue feeding her kitten only food. If he stools are not getting better after 24-48 hrs then its best to take her to your vet for a short course of antibiotics to get her bacterial flora back to normal. Goldie could be vomiting and have watery stool due to many reasons including a sudden change in diet, an infection or parasites. You may try feeding her a bland diet if she will eat it. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. If she will not eat it, continue feeding her the kitten food. Offer her both canned and dried. At her age, she does not need milk of any form. If she is still sick tomorrow, have her examined and treated by the veterinarian. Yes I suspect it's the kitten food causing Buddy to have an upset stomach and vomit. Sudden changes in diet can lead to these symptoms. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones or skin) in small amounts a couple times a day for a few days, the start slowly adding in his normal diet. If he refuses to eat the bland diet, vomits the bland diet, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, continues to have diarrhea, has blood in his stool, and/or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet immediately. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Kitten formula is very hard on the GI tract. I recommend weaning bottle fed babies at 3 weeks slowly over 1-2 weeks. I would get a different brand of formula and mix it 50/50 with the old one. Add more water to it. Start mixing the formula with canned kitten food and get him weaned off formula in the next week or so. He should also be dewormed as well. Good luck!

I do not recommend giving kitten milk - it's actually not as complete & balanced as kitten food, so since Fury is weaned it's best to stick with kitten food. Also, any changes in diet can lead to diarrhea so it's best to avoid adding more changes to Fury's diet.

As long as she’s feeling fine and eating and drinking she should be fine. Please get her back on cat food and water only and this loose stool should resolve without treatment. When cats have bowel irritation they can pass small amounts of blood. If she’s not eating well, not drinking or the diarrhea lasts more than a day then please take her in for an exam and treatment.
