What can I put on my foster kitten's raw, irritated skin for comfort?

Pramoxine (the pain reliever in Neosporine plus) is a topical anesthetic. It is unlikely that it will hurt your kitty if you only put a little of the cream on. I would wipe off the rest. It is never a good idea to use medications for humans on cats or dogs, as many of them are toxic, especially for cats. Also Neomycin (one of the antibiotics in the ointment you used) can cause severe allergic reactions, making the lesion on which you put it , worse. Your vet should examine the irritation on her neck, unless you know its cause. Often cats with food allergies start scratching their neck and head excessively causing them to hurt themselves.

Poor Milo. This looks like a minor abrasion from probably playing too hard or playing with another animal of you have any. I wouldn’t be too concerned about it right now. If it starts to get bigger, drain pus, or bleeding, I would have your vet take a look at him before the two week recheck. In the meantime, you can try putting neosporin on it twice a day to help it heal. He will likely lick some of it off but just rub it in the best you can. I hope this helps!

You should put an e-collar on your kitty, as she will likely lick off the neosporin and ingest it. You may gently wash the paw with warm water so all the debris and dirt is off and then, if it is just dry and cracked, you can put vaseline on the spot. If it looks red and angry or infected it may be advisable to take her to a vet for an exam. IF you put neosporine on the wound and it does not get better within two days, you should definitely take Teagan to a vet as there are some nasty autoimmune diseases which can cause lesions on the paws.

A aloe vera or comfrey ointment can be used but be careful to check it is zinc oxide free as kittens are inclined to lick and ingest any ointments! Nappy rash crean (zinc free) can also be sued but tends to be heavier and less well absorbed, increasing the risk of ingestion. Careful dietary management and regular deworming can help improve stool quality and reduce the risk of it developing

Poor girl. : ( You can safely try Stridex pads along with a very thin layer of Neosporin or a topical antibiotic ointment from your local petstore. However, if it still hasn't healed well you should go back to your vet to see if another antibiotic can be tried or even consider a skin culture to find out what medication will be effective at clearing things up. Hello, thank you for your question about Luna. In addition to Neosporin you could use a diaper cream on this area to help sooth the irritation. If Luna will allow it you can use a warm wash cloth to gently clean the area and remove debris. You can then apply the diaper cream. If the area continues to be irritated and red I would recommend having Luna seen by her veterinarian as this could lead to a skin infection that may require antibiotics. Hope this helps, good luck!
