What should I put on my three-week-old kitten's diaper rash?

Yes, this is similar to a diaper rash - where the skin gets irritated by the filth and sometimes infected. The fact that it's not as red anymore is a good sign that it's healing. The hair loss is not too concerning right now, because this will often happen when the old skin and hair grows out after being damaged and new skin and hair is growing in. I recommend keeping this area clean by just flushing with cool water once a day. Gently wipe away any debris and pat dry after flushing. Avoid scrubbing, or putting any ointments, soaps, or antiseptics on this area, because this can actually irritate the skin and delay healing. I hope that helps and all is well with the kittens.

I would wash it gently with a mild soap and rinse very well. If you have any a and d ointment or other diaper rash cream available then a very small amount of that applied and rubbed in well is appropriate. Neosporin is safe to use, however I don't know how much it will help. It doesn't have any anti-inflammatory properties and the skin looks severely inflamed. You might consider an animal-specific hydrocortisone cream or ointment, as this may be more soothing. Placing loose bandages might also provide comfort as she is trying to walk also.

This could be urine scalding. At her age, she needs to be stimulated to urinate and defecate after each feeding. This is done by gently wiping a warm, moist cotton ball or washcloth around the genitalia until elimination occurs. Clean her up and dry her thoroughly afterwards. The mother will typically do this, but if she isn't, the job will fall toyou. .

This can be from laying in urine, diarrhea, or not drying well after stimulating urination and defecation. Be sure to see how this kitten stool looks compared to his litter mates. Keep all bedding clean and dry. Wash this kitten in baby shampoo and dry very very well. If the rash gets worse the kitten should be seen by a Vet. I hope this helps and good luck!

If this is a superficial rash, you can try to use chlorhexidine containing pads (such as the Douxo chlorhexidine 3% PS pads) to clean the are twice daily for 7 days. You may find these online or at your local pet store. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good day!
