My spayed kitten has puffy, runny eyes and low energy. Is this normal?

It sounds like poor little Dove may have a respiratory infection, and she could have an eye infection again. I would take her into the vet tomorrow. The vet can diagnose if she does have a respiratory infection and an eye infection, and can treat her for it. While there, have the vet check out that hard spot around her incision. It could simply be a local tissue reaction to the internal sutures, but it's best to have it checked out by to be safe. I hope this helps!

The sneezing and coughing could be due to a respiratory infection. First, you can try starting her on an L-lysine supplement - this is an amino acid that has been shown to help the immune system fight off respiratory infections more effectively. Enisyl and Viralys are both good brands, and can be purchased over the counter without a prescription - just follow the dosing instructions on the label based on your cat's weight. If she's congested, you can also try using a humidifier or bringing her into the bathroom with the door closed while you take a hot shower - the steam and humidity help to break up congestion and temporarily relieve symptoms associated with respiratory infections. Hello. This could be the beginning of a little upper respiratory infection. Since most of these are viruses, usually with time they go away ( usually 10-14 days ). As long as Spice continues to eat & act normal, just keep the eye clean of the mucous with a little warm water. If this progresses to a little sneezing, again, as long as he is acting/eating fine, there is no need for treatment. Hi there and thanks for your post! It sounds like Poppy may be dealing with an infection, either eye or upper respiratory infection. Many cats develop upper respiratory infection symptoms due to herpes virus that they were exposed to as kittens. If the eye is discharging and she is uncomfortable, I would get her examined by the vet to ensure there is nothing serious going on. Yes definitely take Binx into the vet. It sounds like she may have an upper respiratory infection and the eye discharge indicates an eye infection. It can be normal. Elsa is likely pretty sore from the surgery as her body heals, so it is normal for her to be a little less active and to want to sleep more (this will also help keep her stitches in place). As long as she is otherwise eating, drinking, and passing urine/stool, I would continue to just monitor. If she stops wanting to eat, drink, go potty, or seems to be worsening instead of improving, then going back to the vet is best. Her eyes may still look goopy as many vets use a special lubricant on the eyes when pets are under anesthesia to keep them from drying out. You can safely use a wet washcloth to remove any remaining goop.
