Why is my spayed kitten sneezing, has goopy eyes, and a lump?

This lump under the incision area could be a local tissue reaction to the internal sutures. If it isn't bothering Mimi, not getting bigger, and you don't see any signs of infection, I would not be too worried about it. Keep an eye on it, and if it gets bigger, the area appears infected, or it doesn't go away in a couple of weeks, I would have her checked out by the vet. The sneezing and coughing could be due to a respiratory infection. First, you can try starting her on an L-lysine supplement - this is an amino acid that has been shown to help the immune system fight off respiratory infections more effectively. Enisyl and Viralys are both good brands, and can be purchased over the counter without a prescription - just follow the dosing instructions on the label based on your cat's weight. If she's congested, you can also try using a humidifier or bringing her into the bathroom with the door closed while you take a hot shower - the steam and humidity help to break up congestion and temporarily relieve symptoms associated with respiratory infections. Should the coughing and sneezing get worse, or she develops other signs such as anorexia and/or lethargy, have her seen by a vet. Best of luck, I hope this helps.

Yes definitely take Binx into the vet. It sounds like she may have an upper respiratory infection and the eye discharge indicates an eye infection. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Please take her into the vet first thing in the morning.

Hello. Jinger's incision looks great, so this is an upper respiratory infection that was probably incubating in her & has now hit. Call your vet tomorrow to see if any medication is necessary, but most of these respiratory infections will last 10-14 days regardless of medication. The important thing is she is still eating & drinking, & as long as she is, she should recover just fine. Hi there and thanks for your post! It sounds like Poppy may be dealing with an infection, either eye or upper respiratory infection. Many cats develop upper respiratory infection symptoms due to herpes virus that they were exposed to as kittens. If the eye is discharging and she is uncomfortable, I would get her examined by the vet to ensure there is nothing serious going on. More then likely she is having a flare up of an upper respiratory virus with the stress of surgery. Most cats are exposed to these viruses, such as cat herpes, and stress can elicit a flare up. Sneezing, runny eyes/nose, congestion, etc. are common. If there is any discoloration to any discharge, cough, or she is not eating well a recheck with your vet is indicated. I'm sorry to hear that Mazy isn't feeling well! With her sneezing and watery eyes, it's most likely that Mazy is experiencing an upper respiratory infection (URI). These infections are most commonly caused by herpesvirus or calicivirus, and these viruses tend to shed and cause problems during times of stress, such as surgery and/or moving to a new home. (Don't worry - these viruses are not contagious to people!) While the viruses just need time to run their course, some cats can develop secondary bacterial infections as well. It would be best to take her to the vet for an exam. Did you change her food when you brought her home last week? Sudden diet changes can cause some stomach upset for many animals, which can lead to some vomiting. Other causes of vomiting can include parasites, gastroenteritis from eating something unusual, pancreatitis, among many other issues. You can try to offer her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken for a few days before gradually mixing in her regular food over another 5-7 days. Also be sure to mention this issue to her vet when she gets checked out for the upper respiratory issues. I hope that she feels better soon!

Not eating or lethargy are also signs to watch for. This may be a suture reaction, an inflammatory reaction to the sutures used.
