My kitten isn't cleaning after pooping. Should I clean him, and is it safe?

Cats are very clean animals in general. They clean them themselves for the same reason that they bury their waste in the litter. They are afraid that the smell could alert predators to their presence - this is instinct. Yin may just not have as much of this instinct as the normal cat. It is not a problem as long as she doesn't have feces stuck to her anus or down her back legs. If you notice this then you will need to clean it off or she will get an infection. It could be that your cat never learned to clean herself as a kitten, or just doesn't realize she has stuff stuck to her fur. Longer haired cats can also get things stuck easily. Keeping the area trimmed and wiping down her bottom with a pet wipe or baby wipe can help keep her cleaner.

This is hard to do. He probably never learned to clean himself or he is so disgusted by his own poop that he does not want to clean it up. 1) his box needs to be cleaned everyday 2) you can put some hairball remedy on his paws so he is enticed to clean that off, then put some on his fur further back until you can put it on his bum. He may get the idea. 3) wipe his bum and feet with clean wipes. He apparently also never learned to cover his poop. This unfortunately happens when the kittens are taken away from mommy way too early, as their mom actually teaches them all that.

Cats typically don't need baths as they don't get very dirty, but if he's getting better about cleaning, there's nothing you need to do. He will clean himself as needed, and if you feel he needs a little extra help with it, it's fine to give him a bath :-)

Hi there. I would not be worried about him having diarrhea one time. If it persists then you need to get him to the vet for an exam. Especially at this young age, very liquidy diarrhea can cause serious dehydration. I cannot tell you if it is dangerous for you to clean it up or not. I do not know if Zero has any internal parasites that might be transmittable to you. She can be shaved under and around her tail and the back of her legs. This will help to keep her clean. I hope this information helps!

If Mila has abnormal stool quality or if she is overweight then it could be a medical issue. Most cats are very clean and groom themselves frequently. However, not all cats are this way and it could be a behavioral thing. If she is overweight then she may not be able to reach to keep clean. There is a food company called Royal Canin that tends to make pets have good stool quality and you may try this diet. If she has a bad stool quality, take her to the vet to see if anything should be done. I hope this helps!
