My kitten has sudden liquid poop. Is it okay? Is it safe to clean?

Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. They probably got it from the mother. I recommend that you have them evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hi there and thanks for posting! Diarrhea or loose stools can be common in kittens with intestinal parasites. I would recommend running a fecal test at your veterinarian's office to rule out parasites as cause. Falcor may need to be on medication and may need a few more deworming treatments and a recheck fecal test to help treat him and be sure he is negative for parasites. Be sure to wash your hands well after touching his feces during little box clean up or if he has an accident on the floor. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Smokey. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian as soft stool is not normal in a kitten. The vast majority of these cases are due to an intestinal infection or a diet sensitivity. His veterinarian will likely perform fecal testing. Deworming medication or an antibiotic may be necessary. If this does not help, then a diet change could be needed. A high quantity kitten food is needed though. Royal Canin, Purina ProPlan and Hills Science Diet are all good options. Small specks of red blood during a bout of diarrhea is not unusual as the delicate lining of the back passage can become damaged from straining. As long as he is bright and alert, eating and drinking it would be ok to leave him but if any lethargy, weakness or vomiting occurs he should be seen urgently by your vet. Be sure he is up to date with deworming medication as intestinal worms are a common cause of diarrhea in young kittens

Persistent vomiting and diarrhea can be dangerous in kittens, so you have good reason to worry. The biggest concern is that he can quickly get dehydrated, which is life-threatening. In order to keep this from happening, he will need to see a vet, so they can administer fluids. They also may be able to find the cause of the Diarrhea/vomiting and correct that. With kittens, I am mostly concerned about infections. Luckily, most of these are treatable, so getting him to the vet as soon as possible will make a big difference in keeping him from getting dangerously sick. Nothing can happen through the skin please don' t worry. However, you always need to wash your hands and wear gloves when you handle his litter tray or your clothes which have diarrhoea on it. Make sure the house is clean etc normal hygiene rules. I would recommend to have him checked over so his diarrhoea can be treated, and he can be neutered, wormed so that everything is in order for when the baby arrives.

This is concerning for intestinal parasites, especially in a kitten. GI parasites are not uncommon in kittens (and puppies), and can cause diarrhea +/- blood. I recommend consulting with your veterinarian to see if he/she can examine Yeti. Kittens can quickly become very dehydrated and ill since they are small. Your veterinarian may recommend a deworming medication to help treat any parasites/worms. I hope this is helpful!
