Why does my fluffy kitten get poop on her? How to keep her clean?

This is common in Persians and other long haired cats. You will need to keep her in a sanitary clip to prevent the stool from sticking to her hair. A groomer or vet can do the clip for your or you can learn to do it yourself. A sanitary clip is where you shave the hair around the anus and down both the back legs. I don't think she has an underlying medical issue with her balance but if you are worried you should have your vet check her.

A little added fiber or a daily pet probiotic can help firm up loose stools, however bringing a stool sample into the vet to rule out anything such as parasites or an underlying illness causing it is a good idea. In some cases, even normal stools can sometimes get stuck on long-haired cats. Gently trimming the area to make it less easy for stool to stick, or using a pet wipe after Pockey gets out of the litter box before the stool can dry may help make it easier to clean.

It could be that your cat never learned to clean herself as a kitten, or just doesn't realize she has stuff stuck to her fur. Longer haired cats can also get things stuck easily. Keeping the area trimmed and wiping down her bottom with a pet wipe or baby wipe can help keep her cleaner.

It might just be that Lucky is a little off-balance as she is growing. Changing the box type (higher sides, step in, etc) may help position her better, otherwise using a pet wipe to clean her bottom may help. If you suspect she may have an issue such as not being able to stand or walk properly that is causing it, a vet visit to rule out any issues is always a good idea.

Soak her bottom in some warm water to soften the stool, then gently wipe her clean. Offer a quality canned kitten food and mix in some unflavored PediaLyte to keep her hydrated. This will help ease defecation. Submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites. Deworm Lily if indicated and repeat in 2 weeks. An exam should also be done since she is a "new" pet. Once she is deemed healthy, you can discuss an appropriate vaccination protocol with your vet.

If Sasha is 5 months old and has poop hanging from her bum, then I suggest checking her for worms, and also checking to see if she is eating any strings or hair. You can do this by getting a glove and looking through her poop. Otherwise, she might have a condition where she isn't in control of her anal sphincter. If Mila has abnormal stool quality or if she is overweight then it could be a medical issue. Most cats are very clean and groom themselves frequently. However, not all cats are this way and it could be a behavioral thing. If she is overweight then she may not be able to reach to keep clean. There is a food company called Royal Canin that tends to make pets have good stool quality and you may try this diet. If she has a bad stool quality, take her to the vet to see if anything should be done. I hope this helps!
