Kitten leaking diarrhea after Cestex, but acting fine. What to do?

If you do those two things and the diarrhea doesn't start to resolve in a few days then you need to take him to a vet for an exam. If you use that again in the future and the diarrhea starts again then you can probably confidently say that it is the issue in which case I would stop using it. Usually if that is the case the diarrhea starts within 24 hours of administration. Two weeks later, it is not likely. The new food is also possibly the culprit but again, you didn't switch cold turkey and it doesn't sound like he is eating that much of it anyway. Again, possible but not likely. Hope this helps. Some cats can experience some diarrhea after a worming treatment. However, from what you are describing it sounds like Precious is having a particularly bad reaction to her worming treatment. I would advise contacting the veterinarian who prescribed it, and discussing the issue. They may want to see Precious in for fluid therapy or for monitoring. Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I would add in a probiotic like Purina Fortiflora and I would get a prescription intestinal diet form you Vet like Hill's i/d. It isn't wrong to deworm her again despite the negative stool sample since she was so infested with worms. Hopefully those 3 things in combination will nip the diarrhea. Good luck!

Causes of diarrhea in kittens can be from: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, food sensitivities, dietary indiscretion (ate something gross), toxins, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease. Most diarrhea will clear up with proper medications, but in some kittens the diarrhea can be frustrating and it improves as they grow up. The mucous indicated inflammation in the colon. It is best that Gus be seen by your Vet, it's Friday and I always encourage animals that aren't well to be seen before the weekend and their Vet is closed. Bring a stool sample with you. Your Vet may prescribe a dewormer, an antibiotic (metronidazole), a priobiotic and a bland diet. I wish Gus good luck and hope he feels better soon!

Hi there and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. There are many causes to diarrhea with a red perhaps inflamed anus. Parasites could be the cause or a bacterial or viral infection. I would take your kitten to your veterinarian soon for a fecal test where they will test his stool for parasites and bacteria and/or certain viruses that could be causing the diarrhea. They may Rx a medication to your kitten depending on what the veterinarian discovers on the fecal test. Best of luck! I hope this has helped.

The fact that he is eating and acting normally is huge and a very good thing. It could be that his GI tract has just been very upset by the antibiotics. While you gather the money for a recheck appointment, try a probiotic like Purina FortiFlora (use as directed on the box). You can also add a fiber supplement like Benefiber powder (tasteless- 1 tsp with each meal). Stay on the GI diet given by your vet as this is likely also helpful. If this seems to fix the problem, great! If not, get into the vet as soon as you are able to get other medications for the diarrhea. Best of luck to you and Mittens!
