My kitten has foul-smelling green diarrhea after eating egg white.

Hello. At 4 weeks of age, you should be weaning these kittens onto a good kitten food. 50 ml of milk 3 times a day may just be too much for them, especially if the kittens are less than 1 pound. The other very big cause of diarrhea in kittens is intestinal parasites. I would bring a sample of the stool to your veterinarian & have it examined microscopically. It is possible that the egg yolk was too rich for her and is now causing the diarrhea. Cats are extremely clean and she is likely licking herself to remove the leaking stool. Since she is so young and the diarrhea is so bad I would take her to your Vet for medications. I would try to not give her table food since she seems to have a sensitive stomach. Other causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, toxin ingestion, pancreatitis, metabolic conditions. These signs could be compatible with a colitis, which is an inflammation of the last part of the colon, usually related to dietary indiscretion. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. There are geographical differences in common parasites found in dogs and cats. It is possible that the diarrhea Kunnu is having is from intestinal parasites. If you aren't feeding actual white rice to him then the white objects you are seeing could be a parasite. Kunnu is quite young and the life cycle of parasites are different so it is possible that he has a tape worm infection. If Kunnu is eating, drinking and acting normal I recommend that you call your Veterinarian and see if you can drop off a stool sample, but make sure you put some of the rice looking pieces in with the stool. That way they can test the stool and the segments to see if they are indeed parasites. if he not feeling well I would have him looked at by the Veterinarian. Young babies can get dehydrated very quickly. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Kitten formula is very hard on the GI tract. I recommend weaning bottle fed babies at 3 weeks slowly over 1-2 weeks. I would get a different brand of formula and mix it 50/50 with the old one. Add more water to it. Start mixing the formula with canned kitten food and get him weaned off formula in the next week or so. He should also be dewormed as well. Good luck!

This could be due to the diet and it could also be due to intestinal parasites. I would recommend switching food to a kitten food and see if that helps. If it does not improve and continues to progress, I would recommend having a veterinarian test her poop sample to check for intestinal parasites. I hope this helps!
