My kitten has a gaping hole on her lower tummy. What should I do?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Chilly. If you can submit a picture that would be helpful. If she has a small open circular open wound, it can be a breathing hole for a fly larva known as a cuterebra. In this case, you can see the larva moving in and out of the breathing hole. If this is the case, she will need to see her veterinarian for removal. If not, she could have a wound from trauma such as a bite if she is around other animals. She will need to see her veterinarian to determine the cause and if treatment is needed. In the meantime, do not allow her to lick the area as this can lead to infection. Hello. Kipsico was bitten probably by another cat, developed an abscess & it has now blown open. If she will let you clean this with warm water & a skin antiseptic like Hibiclens ( available at any pharmacy ), she will be fine until you can have her seen by your vet tomorrow. She will need antibiotics & possibly need to wear a cone to keep her from licking the area, but these things usually heal quite nicely. Ouch, poor Darkness! This is a good size hole, and that white thing inside could be a cuterebra or it could be part of her internal body such as bone if this is around her ribs. Without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain. I can say this looks bad enough that it likely needs stitches, and she has to see a vet. A vet can also diagnose what the white thing is definitively. Please take her into a vet now. Best of luck.

You can try putting some neosporin on it twice a day. If it isn’t healing then I would have your vet take a look at it. She may need oral antibiotics or there could be a parasite in it causing the hole. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the swelling is at the belly button, is soft and non-painful it is likely an umbilical hernia. The herniation is usually fat through the body wall. Sometimes they can be pushed in (but come back out) or are permanently out. We usually fix them easily when they are spayed. Your Vet can examine it soon when you bring her in for her first exam and vaccines. Have a great day! Also feel free to post a picture.

I am so sorry for your cats injuries. Please take her to your vet to have these injuries cared for properly. These are too extensive for at home treatment. Until you can get her in to your vet for much needed wound management and antibiotics; it is best to clean this with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water to help antiseptically clean the area. You can also try shaving the hair around the wounds to help remove dirt from the area, but only do so if your pet tolerates it. If not, then its best to just let your vet do it, as this is a crucial step in allowing these areas to heal well. I do hope that you are able to seek medical care for Kiara soon! Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! No picture was attached so I am not able to evaluate the wound on the abdomen. Sounds like there is a lot going on with Boo! I think the best bet here is to have Boo seen and evaluated with a veterinarian. Boo may need an antibiotic prescribed as well as a dewormer. Boo may be too young for any flea preventatives but a warm bath with dawn dish soap will help kill the fleas that are presently on her. I hope this helps and I hope she can see a vet soon!
