Rescued kitten eats & poops a lot after deworming. Should I worry?

If she is eating and drinking and acting normally I would not consider this an emergency. Give it a couple days to see if the stool firms up. I would recommend rechecking a stool sample. Parasites are not consistent shedders so he may also had a different intestinal parasites that the dewormer didn't cover and may need something else. I would recommend another visit to your veterinarian to have them perform a stool sample. I would also recommend a prescription bland diet. This could be due to the diet and it could also be due to intestinal parasites. I would recommend switching food to a kitten food and see if that helps. If it does not improve and continues to progress, I would recommend having a veterinarian test her poop sample to check for intestinal parasites. I hope this helps! She looks very sweet! Weigh her. This will help with finding out her age. Count 1 week per 3.5 oz of weight. This will give you a fairly close estimate of age. She may have worms (too young for tape worms), so you should worm her with a kitten wormer. The soft stool could be caused by worms or change of food. You are doing well by feeding wet kitten food. She will need vaccinations by the time she is around 8 weeks old. Thank you for taking her in...she is beautiiful.

Congratulations on your new kitten! So far, it seems sounds like you're doing everything correctly. Pooping twice a day is completely normal. I also recommend feeding twice daily, just as you are doing. Brands that I commonly recommend feeding are Science Diet, Purina ProPlan and Royal Canin. If you choose to make a change in her diet, do so by gradually mix in the old and new foods together over 5-7 days. You can choose to feed exclusively wet or dry food, or a mix of both. This is largely a matter of personal preference. Be sure that you are feeding a food formulated for kittens or "all life stages" to aid in growth. She should continue to eat kitten food until 1 year of age, at which point you can transition to an adult cat food. Enjoy your new little kitten!

I would recommend repeating de-wormig twice within 2 weeks, this time take her to the vet and use a high quality product. It could also be an intestinal infection or food allergy, the vet will be able to help your kitten in that case as well.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Lola is adorable! If Lola is producing urine and acting normal I wouldn't be too concerned about her water intake. Some suggestions though are to feed her more of a canned food diet and gradually add water to the canned food to trick her in to taking more water in. Water fountains are a great option for cats who like fresh running water. Be sure that the Vet also dewormed her for round worms as the medications are different. ALL young animals usually have round worms. She should also have started her vaccinations and been tested for feline leukemia and FIV. I would increase her food volume as she does appear skinny. If she doesn't start to gain after being properly dewormed then I would consider a food change. I like he brands Hill's Science diet, Purina proplan, Royal Canine and Iams/Eukanuba. Be sure she is eating kitten formulas until 1 year of age. Good luck!
