My kitten drank soapy water and possibly ate an earring. Why is she sick?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 4.5 lbs

Hi- my 4 month old kitten may have eaten an earring 2-3 days ago. I’m not positive though. It would have been a small stud. Within the last 24 hours she has eaten less, but has still been very energetic (with some big naps too). However within the last two hours she puked and had diarrhea... but I also caught her trying to drink some soapy water from the sink when I quick walked away while doing dishes. Could that explain it? Very worried.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Daisy. Poor kitty. If she did drink some soapy water, that could potentially cause the vomiting and diarrhea, but without seeing her in person, I can't say for certain. Given she has eaten a foreign body and is now potentially showing signs of an obstruction, I think it's best she sees a vet now to be safe. I hope this helps!
