My kitten drank soapy water and possibly ate an earring. Why is she sick?

In small amounts, ingestion of Dawn dish soap may cause some mild vomiting or diarrhea. If some of it were inhaled, it could cause some respiratory signs such as rapid breathing and coughing. I would monitor her closely at this point. If she's breathing normally, I wouldn't be too concerned. If you do see her start to breathe quickly or breathe with her mouth open, I would take her to a veterinarian right away. Open-mouth breathing in a cat is a sign of severe respiratory distress and needs to be treated right away. I hope this helps and that she feels better soon!

This should not lead to any severe intoxication or noticeable side effect. Possibly an episode or vomiting or diarrhoea may occur but they should be all self limiting and resolving. I would recommend to monitor her for the next 12hours but no further actions are needed at this stage.

I recommend that you have them evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. This will likely require bloodwork and abdominal imaging in terms of diagnostics. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least your veterinarian could start them on medications to make them feel better. I'm so sorry that Simba is not going well. You didn't mention how long ago he might have ingested the soap. We will see mostly GI signs (vomiting and diarrhea) with most soap ingestions, but some soaps have ingredients that cause damage to the lining of the GI tract and can require much more intensive treatment. I would recommend contacting a poison control center with the exact ingredients in the soap and see if they can tell you how worried you need to be about the soap ingestion. https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control Since Simba is a kitten, he needs to be taken to a vet right away if he isn't eating or drinking. The vomiting, diarrhea, and decreased appetite may have another medical cause such as an infection from a virus or bacteria or perhaps a parasite. I would recommend Nami see her veterinarian for an exam and evaluation soon. Your veterinarian may want to test Nami's stool or run blood work or x-rays to help determine a cause so she can get appropriately treated. Until you can get to her veterinarian, you feed her a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice to help settle her stomach. I hope this helps and thanks again for posting!
