My kitten has diarrhea after deworming & food change. What can I do?

Some cats can experience some diarrhea after a worming treatment. However, from what you are describing it sounds like Precious is having a particularly bad reaction to her worming treatment. I would advise contacting the veterinarian who prescribed it, and discussing the issue. They may want to see Precious in for fluid therapy or for monitoring. I recommend to have Milly examined by the veterinarian and bring in a fresh stool sample to have her checked for parasites. Cats who have been outside a lot often have worms and protozoal parasites (some of which can spread to humans). Diet changes can also cause diarrhea. Lastly, kittens can be prone to bacterial over growth and any diarrhea lasting longer than 48 hours generally benefits from an antibiotic. You can try feeling Milly a bland diet. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. A good diet in general is Royal Canin. It is low residue and highly digestible and you can transition her to this diet once she is feeling better. I hope Milly starts feeling better quickly! Diarrhea in kittens can be due to a variety of reasons, including intestinal parasites, dietary indiscretion, food intolerance, a virus or another underlying issue. I would recommend Oreo be evaluated by a veterinarian to determine the underlying cause for her diarrhea, have any necessary testing done (fecal analysis, etc) and start any treatment (dewormer, antidiarrheal, probiotic) that she may need to help resolve it. It could be potentially related to diet, but, considering the persistence of the signs,these episodes may be related to parasite infestation or a bacterial infection. I would suggest a check up at your local veterinarian, a fecal sample may be helpful for your vet. If already treated for worms, antibiotics may be needed.

Poor Mocha. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Best of luck.

Kitties can't digest human milk well. This is likely what gave your little one diarrhea. I would switch back to the KMR and start mixing in small amounts of wet kitty starter formula food. You can also mix in 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) to help harden her stools and continue feeding her kitten only food. If he stools are not getting better after 24-48 hrs then its best to take her to your vet for a short course of antibiotics to get her bacterial flora back to normal. I am sorry to hear about your kitty! With blood present I think it is time for a vet exam (and bring a stool sample along). We can have intestinal parasites that are not treated by dewormer (such as Coccidia and Giardia). We can also have things like colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, or food allergy cause these issues. The vet can examine your kitty and based on the exam and history make recommendations and possible test and treatment options.
