My kitten has diarrhea. Are basil seeds a safe or helpful option?

I can't say that it's safe to give her, and you have to be very careful giving human medications to young kittens, as you can accidentally do great harm. Poor Gini could have a GI illness, may have eaten something rotten, or could have a foreign body. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. You might contact your vet to see if it is safe to increase the dose. If it is ProPectalin AntiDiarrheal Gel, this medication can be given every 8 hours. I would continue with either her current cat food or you can do boiled chicken breast and cooked white rice for a few days, but try not to change up her food too much as that can worsen diarrhea. Other causes of diarrhea in a kitten that may need diagnosis by a vet include food intolerance, food allergies, intestinal parasites, bacterial infection, or panleukopenia.

Some cats can experience some diarrhea after a worming treatment. However, from what you are describing it sounds like Precious is having a particularly bad reaction to her worming treatment. I would advise contacting the veterinarian who prescribed it, and discussing the issue. They may want to see Precious in for fluid therapy or for monitoring. Withhold food for so long in such a small kitten is not recommended. Diarrhea is a signs referring to a intestinal problem. It could be due to parasitic infestation (very common in kittens) dietary indiscretion, inflammatory disease, bacterial diseases or viral diseases. You could provide bland food (boiled breast chicken or white fish or gastrointestinal commercial diet) for a 24-36 but, if she continues to have diarrhea, might get dehydrated and therefore need to be checked by a veterinarian. Also if you can spot blood in the faces or if she get lethargic and not eating, or if she start vomiting, I would suggest to have her checked by your veterinarian as soon as possible.

I would recommend starting off with a good dewormer. Also you can add a probiotic or fiber to their diet. If the diarrhea is not resolving I would recommend taking them to a vet for a fecal exam and good physical exam. Some parasites like coccidia need special medications to treat. Hope Mila feels better
