The anal issues are probably from the diarrhea which can be diet related, parasites or an infection. It is not uncommon for kittens to get respiratory infections and have ocular discharge and often sneezing to go with it. It will take some time and medicine to help out. Hi there and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. There are many causes to diarrhea with a red perhaps inflamed anus. Parasites could be the cause or a bacterial or viral infection. I would take your kitten to your veterinarian soon for a fecal test where they will test his stool for parasites and bacteria and/or certain viruses that could be causing the diarrhea. They may Rx a medication to your kitten depending on what the veterinarian discovers on the fecal test. Best of luck! I hope this has helped.

Worms! Roundworms or hookworms would be my guess, they look like vermicelli noodles. Tapeworms are also possible, they are flatter and often break off into small pieces. I would recommend that you have Violet examined by a vet and tested for intestinal parasites to make sure that she receives the correct medication.

Diarrhea is a very non-specific signs so I'm afraid the possibilities are numerous. Intestinal worms, inflammatory bowel disease, food sensitivity, allergic reaction, colitis from stress, diet charge or indiscretion (stealing people food, etc), toxin, or others are all on the list. For tonight, just gently clean her up with a baby wipe or tissue. You can apply a little lanolin or olive oil to soothe the rump. A little ice pack (wrapped in a paper towel or thin kitchen towel) pressed to the anus can help with the pain and inflammation as well. Best of luck to you and Luna!

I'm sorry to hear about Amber's condition but I would say that the scenario is very unlikely. It is more likely that something has caused her to have diarrhea which is very irritating and so now her anus is irritated. She needs to be seen by a veterinarian for diagnostics to help rule out the cause of her problem. In the meantime, you can try offering her a bland diet of chicken and rice to help settle her tummy.

A dewormer would be beneficial if the diarrhea is caused by worms, however if they also have eye discharge or third eyelids showing I would be concerned about other issues ongoing such as a respiratory infection or illness. The kittens, if they are about 2-3 months old, are also of the age where they should be getting their first set of vaccines, exams, etc. It would be best to bring them into your vet for a complete checkup, checking the stool to figure out the cause of the diarrhea, look at the eyes, and get started on a health and vaccination plan.

Even though you do not seen worms, it is possible that Cupcake still has gastrointestinal parasites causing her diarrhea with blood. GI parasites are one of the most common causes of diarrhea in kittens, and are easily treatable with deworming medication from your veterinarian. Other possibilities include viral infections and/or dietary indiscretion (eating something she shouldn't have). Regardless, I recommend having her evaluated by your veterinarian so he/she can perform an analysis of her feces to determine if and what parasites are present, and prescribe the appropriate treatment. I do NOT recommend purchasing products from either a pet store or food store, as these medications are not regulated and/or proven to be safe and effective for use especially in young kittens.
