My kitten has diarrhea with long stringy things. Could it be worms?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 3 months and 9 days old | 4 lbs

This morning my 3 month old kitten had diarrhea and then a long string like thing came out of her and was hanging there. Some of it broke off and it was almost elastic like a rubber band but broke at a certain point. What is this?? Her appetite seems the same or possibly increased. No change in behavior. The same thing happened on Saturday but by the time I got to her she must have removed it herself and I couldn’t inspect it.

Worms! Roundworms or hookworms would be my guess, they look like vermicelli noodles. Tapeworms are also possible, they are flatter and often break off into small pieces. I would recommend that you have Violet examined by a vet and tested for intestinal parasites to make sure that she receives the correct medication.
