My kitten has diarrhea after worming. Can I get an OTC antibiotic?

Ideally I would have Mittems checked out by your vet and have a stool sample checked for parasites. If he has roundworms it's also possible he has other parasites or coccidia as they are very common in kittens. An over the counter dewormer such as pyrantel or fenbendazole should be safe to give with Clavamox though.

You are correct about Pyrantel not treating tapeworms. Septran (trimethoprim sulfa) is an antibiotic drug that does not treat parasites. In order to kill the tapeworms you will need to get a drug called praziquantel.

Poor kitty. You are ok to give dewormer with just about any other medication, even same day, since it has very few medication interactions. I would add in a probiotic like Purina Fortiflora and I would get a prescription intestinal diet form you Vet like Hill's i/d. It isn't wrong to deworm her again despite the negative stool sample since she was so infested with worms. Hopefully those 3 things in combination will nip the diarrhea. Good luck!

Some cats can experience some diarrhea after a worming treatment. However, from what you are describing it sounds like Precious is having a particularly bad reaction to her worming treatment. I would advise contacting the veterinarian who prescribed it, and discussing the issue. They may want to see Precious in for fluid therapy or for monitoring. You are not giving the correct medication. If you are seeing tapeworms, small flat worms or rice like segments near the anus, then you need a prescription dewormer from your veterinarian. I recommend taking a fecal sample in and have them look for parasite eggs under the microscope. Then they can make sure they give you the proper medication. I would recommend that you have Goose re-evaluated by the vet since their treatment didn't work. Diarrhea in kittens is commonly caused by intestinal parasites or food intolerance. They should perform a fecal intestinal parasite screen. Even if it is normal, empirical treatment for the intestinal parasites common in your area may be warranted.
