My kitten got stuck in her collar. Are collars safe for young kittens?

You can buy them collars, if you do buy the safe release collars, these collars will automatically open if your cat get stuck with the collars somewhere. many cats will lose their collars almost immediately but you cannot predict that in advance, you have to try it.

This is an emergency. You need to take your kitten to a pet ER right away. Small kittens can die very quickly from injuries but they can also recuperate very quickly if treated properly. It is important to find where the blood comes from and how serious the injury is. The fact that the neck is hurting is especially concerning. Hi A pic helps in this cases so I always suggest to attach pics. But since there are none , in general , if the cut is already healing and showing no signs of infection such as redness, discharge, pain, swelling and the cat is not bothered by it , scratching etc you can monitor it is healing till its gone. If Any signs as the one mentioned above start take him to the vet. Also according to your question the scratchbis under the collar so it may ne a good idea to take off the collar just for a while to air the area . Hope this helps

With the exception of Seresto collars ( https://www.petbasics.com/cat-products/seresto-for-cats/?pref=cat ), flea collars do not work well for cats and can cause skin irritation, so I do not recommend them for cats. I would consider removing the flea collar and see if the skin lesions go away. If you have also applied a topical flea medication that should work better than the flea collar. Carefully cut off the plastic ring immediately. If he is lucky the circulation was not cut off completely. After cutting off the ring, inspect the area for injuries. If there is no open wound prepare some warm water (warmer than luke warm, but not so hot that it hurts) and dip the foot in it for a minute or two in order to encourage circulation. If you cannot take off the plastic or if you find a wound please take this baby to a vet or Pet ER today.

Unfortunately there is no clear cut answer either way. On the plus side, bells can be used to locate your cat indoors or to warn wildlife if your cat cat goes outdoors. On the negative side, it can give away your cat's location to predators or may get snagged on something which could lead to neck injury or strangulation. This last issue can be avoided with a breakaway safety collar, but that leaves your pet without identification. As you can see, it is a difficult question to answer! If your cat tolerates a collar with a bell and you have no issues with her wearing one, then it is your prerogative to use one.

It really depends on how severe the damage is. If it is simply a case of some swelling the treatment may simply be to let her rest. However if she seems painful or is acting strangely then she would need to go to the vet as and possibly get an anti-inflammatory mefucation. They may need to do investigations also. Don't give her any at home painkillers as many are toxic to cats.
