Found kitten with wire on leg. Is paw injured or circulation cut off?

Unfortunately most of the time there is permanent damage to the foot. While a cat can live with three legs, most of the time, if the blood circulation has not returned to the foot, it will get gangrenous and the kitten will get septic and will need to be euthanized. This is an emergency and you need to take the kitten to a veterinarian right away to check the circulation. I am so sorry you lost those kittens.

Please have your kitten seen by a vet right away. That wound looks extremely painful and will require pain medication and antibiotics. The kitten will need to have the wound cleaned out by the vet and will likely need sutures/bandaging of the area. Pain medication meant for people can be toxic to kittens and should not be used without checking with your vet. If you cannot keep the kitten and don’t know anyone who will take on his care and vet expenses, please contact local animal shelters and rescue groups so that he can get vet care asap. It is true that gangrene can occur in animals if circulation is completely cut off for long periods of time. However the placement of a rubber band in this case is not causing complete lack of circulation but instead is just resulting in some localized swelling to the Joint below the rubber band. I expect that you will see the swelling continue to subside over the course of the next day and that your kitten's Mobility will not be affected in any sort of long-term way. If you are seeing changes in Mobility past the one to two day mark, seek Veterinary attention. Hope this helps!.

It's hard to tell from the pictures exactly where the wound is and if it involves the claw itself. I would soak her paw in warm water (you can use a little epsom salts if you have it) to loosen the scab, then you can gently clean it with a warm wet washcloth. If you find that there is bleeding, then apply gently pressure for 15 minutes. Don't apply any topical medications as Luna will just lick them off. If the bleeding continues, or of the paw swells, or if there is a creamy or foul discharge, then she may need to go to the vet for examination and antibiotics.

Poor Indigo! While it is hard to tell for certain from a photo, this does look like it could be a deep enough cut to use sutures. I would recommend having her examined by a veterinarian as soon as you can, preferably when your vet opens next if they are not open now. In the meantime, if she will allow you to clean it with mild soapy water you can do this, and apply a thick layer of an antibiotic ointment or a lubricant like ky jelly or vaseline to keep the wound moist/from drying out. If you have an e-collar to put on her this can be helpful if she is licking the area. If she seems very painful then you can take her to an emergency vet to have it looked at. Poor kitty! Glad you found her, people are unbelievable! If you think she may have an injury to her foot, I would strongly recommend bringing her into the emergency vet to be examined. They will be able to tell you whether or not the affected area is savable or if it is something that should just be left to resolve on its own. This kitten will need to be seen by a veterinarian. It may be possible to orthopedically treat the kitten by applying braces or similar means to help it strengthen its front legs. It is necessary for the kitten to be examined and treated as it will not be able to walk properly on the front legs like this, making it prone to injuries and infections.
