My kitten's front paws are brown. Is this normal or a problem?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think Zeus's paws are reddish brown from grooming his face. Persians tend to produce a lot of tears that are also reddish brown in color. There is a pigment in the tears and also in their saliva that can cause staining of the fur. If he has excessive tears from his eyes I would have your Vet check him out to make sure there isn't an infection or blocked tear duct. But in my experience with Persians is that it is common in their breed. I hope this helps!

Based on your photos, this looks like pigmented areas of the paw pad, which can be normal in some cats. If the areas are not raised or painful then this is likely the case. If, however, the colored areas are a different texture/raised or seem painful/sensitive then a veterinary exam is recommended.

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Brown crusting on the paws could be foreign material on the paws such as dirt or feces. It could also be a yeast or fungal infection. I would take Toffee to her veterinarian to have the paws looked and the brown cursing tested to rule out a bacterial or fungal infection. Both are very treatable and not too much to worry about. Hope this helps!

Most cats have clear/white claws but occasionally they can be darker. This can be from natural pigment or a response to inflammation or infection. If you see brown waxy discharge around the nail that is turning the nail brown, this can be a sign of an infection. If this is the case, a veterinarian should evaluate her to see if there is an infection.

This looks like a normal change in hair color. This skin doesn't look infected or red. The fur can sometimes change from moisture or from the saliva if they are licking. I wouldn't be too concerned about this unless he starts to lick it obsessively or the skin starts to get red. I hope this helps!

Hello. This is totally facial staining seen in white/light colored kittens from nursing their mothers. It is not uncommon to see this type staining on the nipples of white nursing queens, & it often is seen on the kittens faces as well. Coloration of the paw pads can change as a dog ages, and may turn pinkish or brown, especially if old skin has sloughed off or there was an injury that healed. Signs of a problem to look out for include licking or chewing of the feet, redness or inflammation, pain, visible swelling or injury, strange smells, or if the discolored area is painful to the touch or non-weight bearing. These are all signs of something else ongoing such as an infection, allergy, or injury, which should be treated by your vet.
