My kitten has brown crusts on paws. Is this something to worry about?

Hello! Thank you for using PetCoach! Cute kitten! It is very difficult to say what something is just by looking at a photo. Many skin diseases will often look similar in presentation. I can tell you that my first suspicion is ringworm. Ringworm is by far and away the number one skin disease of kittens. I suggest you get Aniko to your vet for an exam and some testing. Ringworm is contagious to people so you don't want to leave it untreated. it is also highly contagious to other animals. Here is a link to an article about ringworm in cats. Hope this helps. It could be a normal color change, a bacterial or fungal skin infection, or from saliva staining from licking the area too much (allergies). Have your vet take a look at it to determine if there is anything abnormal that needs to be treated. If she doesn't seemed bothered by it and you don't see any swelling, redness, or discharge than it may just be normal.

This may be due to an infection such as one caused by a fungus though it could be bacterial and it is just not possible to know just based on a description. Usually these infections are not transmitted to humans unless it is ringworm and it does not sound like that so I would not be too concerned about that. Hi and thanks for posting! The brown color may be a scab or scabbing around her legs and neck due to itching or licking frequently. It may be Sasha has an allergy to fleas (especially if she is not on any flea preventative), or has another allergy. Skin mites are also a possibility as is a fungal infection or bacterial infection. I would not try to remove the scab as the skin is trying to heal itself. I would recommend having Sasha seen by her veterinarian soon so a definitive diagnosis can be made and Sasha can receive the necessary treatments. There could be several reasons behind Copper’s skin issues. You definitely want to rule out a parasite such as ringworm (which humans can get) or mites. Ask your veterinarian if these have been ruled out at this point. If not, look into testing for these. Crustes around the eyes can indicate a viral infection. Ask your veterinarian if they are suspicious of that. Sometimes these problems can be related to food. I recommend to feed a high-quality diet such as Royal Cann Persian kitten food. It has additives and supplements for coat health for the breed. Royal Canin food is good in general if you cannot find the specific Persian variety. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think Zeus's paws are reddish brown from grooming his face. Persians tend to produce a lot of tears that are also reddish brown in color. There is a pigment in the tears and also in their saliva that can cause staining of the fur. If he has excessive tears from his eyes I would have your Vet check him out to make sure there isn't an infection or blocked tear duct. But in my experience with Persians is that it is common in their breed. I hope this helps!
