My kitten has black crusty spots on her nose and chin. What is it?

I have a white Persian kitten.she has a black crusty kind of think on her nose like her nose is full of it some people say it might be because she has big nails and she scratched her nose..she also has black spots on her chin as well..what is the reason??and what should I do??

Hello, sorry to hear about Luna. It sounds like she is having acne. This is typically brought on in cats due to them rubbing their face and snout against objects such as the rug or food bowls. Most often, you need to wipe their snout with skin sensitive baby wipes and change their food bowls to stainless steel. This are the first steps to try, and if it does not work then some cats may need medications.

Your kitten is a bit young for this disease if she is truly 21 days old, so if the cleaning does not help or if the black spots are spreading, then she should be seen by a veterinarian. Hope this helps and best of luck.

The black spots on your cats chin is chin acne.

I would recommend making sure your cat is drinking out of stainless steel or ceramic bowls and that they are cleaned at least once a day. I would also keep their chin clean and dry.

This is chin acne. I recommend cleaning the area and making sure she is eating and drinking out of ceramic or stainless steel bowls. Plastic bowls collect bacteria and when cats eat out of them the bacteria gets into their skin creating acne. Severe chin acne should be treated with antibiotics. So if this is not resolving then I recommend a veterinarian.

They can take a woods lamp (it is like a black light) to see if it glows green. If it does it is ringworm, if it does not it still could be. Only 50% of all ringworm shows up positive with this test. What's the crusty black spot on my white cat's nose? Is it cancer?

This can be seen in a few different cases, but I always worry about skin cancer in white cats, so it's best to have it checked out by your veterinarian. I have seen similar lesions when they rub their nose on something, or with certain infections, so I would not be too worried; just have it checked to be safe. It's not an emergency, but good to have her seen in the next week to ensure treatment is initiated early if it's something serious. For now, I do not recommend doing any sort of treatment at home. It's best to leave it alone until a vet can have a look. My cat has black spots on her chin. Is it a bug or chin acne?

Hello, and thank you for your question. The black spots look suspicious for chin acne, which is common in cats. It is not a bug at all, but in fact sebaceous secretions that plug up the hair follicles on the cat's chin. These can become infected, so the best thing to do would be to take Little to the vet to see if she needs antibiotics. For mild cases of chin acne, however, you can try wiping the area twice a day with hydrogen peroxide. This may help to open up the hair follicles and prevent them from getting clogged up again. Other possibilities for the chin issue may be infection, or tumours. Again, it would be best to get this checked out by a vet eventually to confirm the diagnosis. Hi there. It looks like Duchess may have comedomes, which are basically black heads. This is typically caused by blocked pores. I would try using an acne pad to clean the spot and see if it clears up. I would do this daily. If you don't see resolution after 5 days, I'd have your vet examine her. However, crusty skin lesions can be due to parasite (skin or mite) infections, bacterial infections or even fungal infections. Your veterinarian can perform a skin scraping to determine the cause of the crustiness and prescribe appropriate treatment.

Why does my cat have brown or black crust on his nose? Is it serious?

The crusts are caused by the nose running just a little, then it mixes with skin cells and bacteria or yeast to turn brown. Some cats can have a low-grade chronic upper respiratory infection to cause it. In some of these cats, a supplement called lysine can help (see link below).
