My cat has a black spot on her nose. Is it cat acne or something else?

Hello, and thank you for your question. The black spots look suspicious for chin acne, which is common in cats. It is not a bug at all, but in fact sebaceous secretions that plug up the hair follicles on the cat's chin. These can become infected, so the best thing to do would be to take Little to the vet to see if she needs antibiotics. For mild cases of chin acne, however, you can try wiping the area twice a day with hydrogen peroxide. This may help to open up the hair follicles and prevent them from getting clogged up again. Other possibilities for the chin issue may be infection, or tumours. Again, it would be best to get this checked out by a vet eventually to confirm the diagnosis. Hello, sorry to hear about Luna. It sounds like she is having acne. This is typically brought on in cats due to them rubbing their face and snout against objects such as the rug or food bowls. Most often, you need to wipe their snout with skin sensitive baby wipes and change their food bowls to stainless steel. This are the first steps to try, and if it does not work then some cats may need medications. Your kitten is a bit young for this disease if she is truly 21 days old, so if the cleaning does not help or if the black spots are spreading, then she should be seen by a veterinarian. Poor Gaston! Feline acne is pretty common, and it sounds like you're already taking all the steps to help minimize it. That said, if this new blemish is different from previous ones, bothersome to Gaston, or growing in size/hot to the touch, it's a good idea to have it checked out by your vet to make sure it's not something else such as an abscess (infection under the skin) or cyst. Otherwise, keeping the area clean and dry and monitoring the spot for any changes can help keep it from becoming more irritated.

Hi there! It is hard to see in the picture and it would help to be able to examine Lara. It does look like Lara does have a small nodule/mass. This could be a benign or malignant growth. This is most of the time differentiated with a test called a fine needle aspirate which is easy, cheap and pain-free. Sometimes, a biopsy is required for a diagnosis. Have Lara evaluated by your veterinarian to have this test performed to try to sort out what the diagnosis is so that the best course of action can be determined. Keeping my fingers crossed that it is something benign!

I don't think it is skin mites. Blackhead (chin acne) is pretty common in cats and can be treated with daily Chlorhexidine solution OR you can use a topical human topical benzoyl peroxide gel 5%. Trimming away any long hairs is helpful as well.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Black pigment or Lentigo are common developments in the mouth of cats as they age. More so in orange cats. That is what I think your last picture shows. The middle picture I can't tell if it is pigment or just some drool that had food in it that dried on the fur. It isn't uncommon to have dark crust at the nose openings. Some cats can have that and not be sick or if they are recovering from an upper respiratory tract infection. If Aphrodite is acting normal and not sneezing excessively I do not think she needs veterinary care. Have a good day!
