My week-old kitten was bitten, has pus, is cold and not eating. Help!

The kitten should be physically examined by your veterinarian. X-rays may be needed to rule out a fracture. If it is a bite, it is likely infected, given the amount of swelling, which would require antibiotics and pain management.

Without more information it's not possible to determine what has caused your kitten’s condition. However, it is essential that your kitten see a veterinarian immediately. He sounds like he is seriously ill, and there are various reasons that may have lead to his sickness. One very serious concern in a kitten with bite wounds is the possibility of rabies infection, which is transmitted from the saliva of infected mammals, can be passed on to humans, and is fatal. A young kitten that is not eating is at risk for dehydration and low blood sugar, which can quickly become deadly. Cow’s milk can actually cause gastrointestinal upset in kittens, and should not be fed to kittens or cats. Kitten should be nursed by their mother or fed kitten formula until they are weaned. Please have him seen by a vet immediately.

I would recommend taking him to a vet as soon as possible. He most likely developed an abscess on his leg after a bite wound from another animal. These abscesses might need surgery to resolve. Also the patient can become septic (blood infection) and this is fatal with out treatment. Hope scooter feels better

This is not good news. It is likely that your kitten has an upper respiratory infection which affects its eyes as well. This is usually caused by a virus and a secondary bacterial infection which then causes pus which "glues" the eye shut. Your kitty will need to be seen by a veterinarian ASAP, who will give her an exam to find out the cause and then prescribe medications accordingly, DO not wait for this to get better by itself, as the earlier the disease is treated the faster Lily La La will recover, Make sure she eats and drinks well.

Puncture or bite wounds can get infected rather quickly and result in a fever which may be why he is not eating. They can form abscesses that require local treatment and antibiotics. This could definitely be from a bite, or there could be another reason for the infection. It's best to get this seen by a veterinarian, because there could be something under the skin that will continually cause an infection is it's not removed. This doesn't appear to be an emergency, but it's best to have her seen in the next day or two. For now, you can try the following: 1) Clip the hair around the area and expose all of the sore skin. 2) Wash/spray the area with just warm, clean water (no soap or other antiseptics) for at least 5 minutes at a time. This type of wounds must be considered always infected. A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths.
