My cat has a bite on its face with pus. What should I do right now?

Poor Caramel! In all honesty, it would be best to take her into a vet now, especially since I can't see her in person to say how bad is the bite. In my opinion, it's better to be safe than sorry. She needs to be checked out to make sure there is no internal damage from the bite, the wound needs to be cleaned and possibly sutured, and she will need antibiotics to prevent any infection. That could be ok but it is best to repost your question and attach a picture of it to have a complete and reliable advice from us. As you suspected, this presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). Disinfection can be done at home with diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths (twice daily as long as needed). Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking/scratching. all the pus must be removed and the wound must be flushed. It sounds like Kitu may have a bite wouldn’t abscess. These usually need to be drained and given antibiotics to resolve. In the meantime you may consider applying a warm water and Epsom salt compress to the site. This may help with discomfort and also may encourage drainage. HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Pussy Cat! I recommend having him rechecked as soon as possible. My worry is that the bite wound is now a closed abscess and needs to be lanced so it can drain. Antibiotics have a hard time penetrating a puss filled pocket. I would not recommend waiting a week. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. A dog bite would almost always leave puncture wounds but perhaps a cat bite, another trauma (landed wrong, etc). In case it is a big abscess, I’d strongly recommend you see the vet as soon as possible. It will need to be lanced, drained, and flushed and Lady will need some antibiotics. Oh my. Poor kitty. Because of the pus and infection, this kitty will need to be seen by your vet to get kitty on prescription antibiotics. I would recommend taking this kitty in to the vet asap. Yes. I would recommend to take her to the vet. The doctor will likely put her on antibiotics to try to clean up the infection. You also need to make sure that she is not licking at the area as this can make it worse. She should wear an Elizabethan collar at all times and be kept indoors completely until the wound is completely healed.
