My unvaccinated kitten ate a lizard. Is it dangerous for us?

Some lizard species may be toxic, most are not. Another concern is that Bacchu may become infected with intestinal parasites or liver flukes. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. These are symptoms of serious illness that should be addressed by your veterinarian. If she is drooling excessively, try rinsing her mouth with cool water for at least 15 minutes then monitor for redness or swelling in and around the mouth.

The gecko itself should pose no risk other than possibly mild gastrointestinal upset. It is another source of protein for your cat. Geckos can harbor parasites such as liver flukes or other intestinal worms though. It would be best if you can prevent Vanilla from ingesting them. Regular exams and deworming would be recommended to keep her healthy. Feed a bland diet for a few days if she vomits or has diarrhea eating one. See your vet if the GI upset does not resolve.

The lizard your kitten ate may have upset her tummy. She may vomit, drool excessively, and not want to eat for a few days while the lizard is still in her stomach. If this behavior continues for more than 48 hours I would recommend taking her in the see the vet. This honestly depends on the type of lizard. I'd monitor him for any concerning signs including vomiting, excessive salivation, anorexia, and lethargy. If you see any of them, have Simba seen by a vet.

Hello, sorry to hear about Parvo. Cats are naturally hunters and thus this behavior may be part of her instinct. However, this may also be caused from a dietary insufficiency. I would recommend that you make sure Paro is being offered a well balanced commercial diet. Eating lizards may predispose her to some parasites, but these vary by region so your local veterinarian may be able to offer better advise on what risk Paro may be at if she continues to eat these lizards. Monitor for any signs of vomiting, decreased appetite, diarrhea, and yellow tinged gums. If you note any, then contact your veterinarian to have her evaluated. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Brownie should be just fine. House lizards are not poisonous. However, I don't recommend giving her the olive oil in the future, because too much fat suddenly can stress her pancreas and cause a painful and dangerous condition called pancreatitis. Just watch for vomiting and diarrhea from the oil, and take her to a vet if you see that, but otherwise you're good to go.

Hello. There is no need to worry about your cat getting rabies from a mouse. Rabies must be transmitted through a bite wound & it is very unlikely that the mouse was able to bite your cat before being killed. In addition, the rate of rabies in a mouse in NYC is almost zero.
