My cat ate a house lizard and I gave her olive oil. Is she okay?

Some lizard species may be toxic, most are not. Another concern is that Bacchu may become infected with intestinal parasites or liver flukes. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. These are symptoms of serious illness that should be addressed by your veterinarian. If she is drooling excessively, try rinsing her mouth with cool water for at least 15 minutes then monitor for redness or swelling in and around the mouth.

The gecko itself should pose no risk other than possibly mild gastrointestinal upset. It is another source of protein for your cat. Geckos can harbor parasites such as liver flukes or other intestinal worms though. It would be best if you can prevent Vanilla from ingesting them. Regular exams and deworming would be recommended to keep her healthy. Feed a bland diet for a few days if she vomits or has diarrhea eating one. See your vet if the GI upset does not resolve.

Geckos are not toxic, but may carry parasites that could be harmful. At worst, you may see some temporary stomach upset. Consider a short fast followed by a b;and diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Transition slowly to the regular diet afterwards. My condolences on the loss of your gecko.

The cat will not get any viruses from eating a lizard but, she can get intestinal parasites. I suggest you get her vaccinations started and have her dewormed because she needs them but I would not be overly concerned about her eating this one lizard. It should not be harmful to you in any way. I don't know if you are asking specifically about rabies but you do not have to worry about rabies. Reptiles (like lizards) do not get or carry rabies; only mammals.

The lizard your kitten ate may have upset her tummy. She may vomit, drool excessively, and not want to eat for a few days while the lizard is still in her stomach. If this behavior continues for more than 48 hours I would recommend taking her in the see the vet. Cats don't get pancreatitis from eating high fat foods like dogs do, but it can cause some GI upset. Keep an eye on Noushi for now, and if you do have any GI upset, take her into the vet. Best of luck.

Olive oil is safe to give to cats, so a small amount may help, however if there is a severe intestinal obstruction it likely won't clear it. If the oil doesn't help, or the vomiting continues, veterinary care is unfortunately needed, and many emergency clinics are still open for services. Other things to try can include feeding smaller meals more often so that Mama isn't eating a huge amount in one meal, which may help her better keep down what she is eating.
