When will kitten antibiotics work? Is my 3-week-old ready for weaning?

Poor kitty. You are ok to give dewormer with just about any other medication, even same day, since it has very few medication interactions. I recommend finishing out his liquid antibiotic via oral syringe if you haven’t already. If he is still eating his dry food, then I wouldn’t worry too much about him avoiding canned food for now. You can try putting a very small amount of canned food in his mouth every few days after to show him that the food no longer has a medicinal taste. With patience and time he may start eating canned food on his own again. If he is not eating at all ( including dry food), then I recommend bringing him in to see your veterinarian as complete inappetance for more than 2 days in cats can lead to a very serious condition called hepatic lipidosis. If he is not eating at all, your vet may do additional diagnostics and/or recommend anti-nausea medications and/or appetite stimulants. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! At 3 weeks you can start to introduce canned kitten food mixed with the KMR. I like to wean bottle babies earlier due to intestinal issues with formula. As long as Pia is gaining weight and growing she is likely fine. You can try to do smaller more frequent meals to see if you can get more overall volume in. I would try to have her on 100% kitten food by 4-5 weeks. At 3 weeks she shouldn’t need the heating pad anymore as she should be able to regulate her temperature. Good luck!

At 3.5 weeks I would recommend weaning her onto semisolid food to allow her to chew rather than suckle. Early weaning is possible from 2 weeks of age. I would recommend royal canin starter mousse initially either from a syringe or spoon

This may be a virus and not a bacterial infection. If that's the case antibiotics will not help and the virus needs to run its course which can take up to two weeks. As long as she isn't getting worse, running a fever and is eating I would keep monitoring her. If at any time she does get worse or isn't getting any better after 7-10 days, I would call your veterinarian. Let her rest unless she wants to play.
