Can kittens nurse if my cat is on topical amoxicillin?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 5 lbs

I've been giving my female cat a topical amoxicillin for a puncture wound to help prevent infection, she has kittens (11-12wks.) Is it safe for them to nurse her while she is/has been using it?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the kittens are 11-12 weeks old, they shouldn't still be nursing. They are old enough to be on solid kitten food now. Either way, amoxicillin is not toxic to young kittens.
