New kitten care: Can 3-week-olds eat wet food & use human clippers?

What was your kitten on antibiotics for? It can take a couple doses to start to see an effect. At around 3 weeks of age I typically recommend starting to introduce wet kitten food that you can add the milk to until they get used to it. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! At 3 weeks you can start to introduce canned kitten food mixed with the KMR. I like to wean bottle babies earlier due to intestinal issues with formula. As long as Pia is gaining weight and growing she is likely fine. You can try to do smaller more frequent meals to see if you can get more overall volume in. I would try to have her on 100% kitten food by 4-5 weeks. At 3 weeks she shouldn’t need the heating pad anymore as she should be able to regulate her temperature. Good luck!

I would say probably around four weeks of age. It’s fine to give it wet food with KMR, and over the course of two weeks, decrease the amount of KMR and increase the amount of wet food until it is eating the wet food only. Best of luck.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Getting appropriate toys and scratching posts/mats can help tremendously is giving your little guy something GOOD to scratch. You can also use human nail clippers for a kitten this size to help blunt the tips. (Added bonus, he will tolerate it better when its time for the vet to examine his feet or trim his nails!) The best thing to feed is a kitten milk replacer, which you can purchase at PetCo. At this age you can also start introducing solid kitten food, moistened with water or milk, and they should be gong showing interest in this. I would also recommend having your kittens dewormed since most kittens become infected with intestinal parasites. I hope this helps. Best of luck.
