What to do when your indoor cat escapes and goes missing?

I'm sorry to hear your can't find your kitty! This would be stressing me out too! If you are able to hear her but and she sounds like she might be in some trouble, I would be looking in some really small places that she might have been able to get in but not necessarily get out of. I would be looking in any place that she might have been able to get behind a wall or into a ceiling. Otherwise, if you think she might just be hiding somewhere that she doesn't want you to find her, starting leaving out some stuff that she would normally come running for on any other normal day. If she grew up as a stray, then I think she'll have a good chance of surviving. Cats do have a good sense of direction, so she might return. It's not uncommon that cats go for a walkabout for a day or two, then return. However, she also may be trying to get back to her alley home. If that is somewhat nearby, then I'd check for her there. It's also good to start hanging flyers in the neighborhood and check with local shelters. People tend to pick these kittens up when they see them. I hope that helps and your kitty returns soon.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am so sorry about Moli! Outdoor cats, especially not spayed or neutered will wander. The fact she did return after 11 days makes be think that her being gone 2 days is too soon to say something bad happened. The risk to outdoor cats are: injuries from vehicles, other animals and finding her homes. The inured back leg could be from a fight, being hit by a car or falling from something. You can ask around and post fliers and see if anyone has seen her or know what might have happened. The only thing to do if she comes back is to have her spayed and keep her 100% indoors to prevent wandering off. I hope she returns soon!

Oh no, I'm so sorry Luna is missing. Have you checked with local vet clinics? Let them know you are missing her, and they can keep an eye on her in case someone brings her in. You can also check any local animal shelter. Keep searching, and check very small places. It's amazing how cats can squeeze themselves into very tiny places. Also check up trees. I lost an indoor cat once, and found her high up in a tree. I hope this helps and you find her.

It is possible that she is just taking care of her young for now. There are possible complication after birth like imbalance hormones, a kitten not born causing infection, or even eclampsia (low calcium). If you know where she could be hiding, I would try to find her and take food to her. If not, all you can do is wait. She will likely come out when she is ready. Hi and thanks for posting- I am sorry to hear Gumble has escaped! Cats are very intelligent and also have very good navigational skills, so she may be able to find her way home, but it is hard to say for sure. If she is micro-chipped, anyone with a microchip scanner (vet's office, shelter, rescue organization, or police) will scan her for her chip number which can help bring her back home. I hope Gumble comes home soon!

You may try leaving tasty treats or very small amounts of food out on the steps/porch and lead them into the house (if you can leave the door open so he walks in. You can also sit quietly outside with something tasty to encourage him to come to you. Be patient and quiet. Most pets will get hungry enough that they will try to over come their fears.
