My found cat is microchipped. Will the vet think I stole him?

Most clinics and shelters have a microchip scanner that is used to scan any found pets. You should contact the microchip company and alert them. If the chip ID is called in, this could trip an alert so you may be contacted. Additionally, in most cases, most veterinarians will not euthanize a sick pet simply for financial reasons. You may want to call around . I’m our area many practices will do a new pet exam at no fee, then you can schedule for vaccines and such for next week. If you don’t plan to keep the kitty you can take to the humane society or animal control. If the kitten seems bright and alert and healthy then waiting a week for an exam and vaccines is probably ok as well. Regardless you should have her scanned for a microchip as she may be lost and her family may be looking for her. Any veterinary hospital can do this at no charge. From what you are describing, lethargy and a reduced appetite I would advise taking the stray into see a veterinarian. It could have an underlying medical condition, could have suffered an injury, or may be microchipped and belong to someone.
