My ferret burned his paws. Is sleeping all day normal or serious?

From the pictures, the burn does not appear too bad, so you can likely manage this at home. The biggest worry with burns is the possibility of infection. In order to prevent this, you should clean foot with soap and water everyday. You should also gently scrub the foot to remove dead tissue. It would be best to keep the wound bandaged with silver nitrate cream if possible. However, applying and keeping a bandage on a ferret is extremely difficult. You can try this by applying a bandage similarly to the one demonstrated on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLc-7CdluuE If it's not working, then don't bother and just ensure that the foot is clean. If the foot starts to swell, turn red, black or blue, or has pus oozing from it, then you will need to take Wyatt Erp to the vet for treatment. I hope that helps and he gets better soon.

Poor Fuzzy! I'm glad that you found him! I recommend having him seen by a vet in case the wounds are infected or painful - your vet will be able to prescribe antibiotics and pain medication. In the meantime, you can apply SSD (silver sulfadiazene) ointment several times per day to the areas. You should also use soft, non-scratchy bedding until the wounds heal to prevent further trauma. As the areas heal, Fuzzy may lick them, so you may want to get him an E-collar or cone to prevent further trauma. I hope this helps and that Fuzzy feels better soon!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bandit. I would bathe just the affected areas with Dawn dish soap. It is good at the stripping the fur and will hopefully strip any remaining wax off of him. You do not want him to ingest the wax. If he becomes lethargic or refuses to eat or drink, he will need to see his veterinarian. Good luck!

If he seems to be more lethargic/sleepier than usual, or seems to limp on any of his legs, I would have him evaluated by a veterinarian. As long as Kai is still acting normally (eating, drinking, urinating and defecating normally), not showing any signs of pain, and moving around as usual, I would not be concerned. It definitely is pretty typical for a pet to be extra tired for a few days after going missing, from the stress/excitement, and potentially increased activity of being out. If Bandit is eating and drinking well, that's certainly a good sign. You should be seeing him become progressively more of his normal self. If he continues to seem "off" or overly tired beyond the first couple days, or if you feel his appetite is decreased, then I'd definitely have a vet take a look. There are many hazards that our pets can encounter when they get outside, such as injury, toxic exposure, bites from other animals, etc so if Bandit isn't bouncing back it's worth having him seen by a vet. Hi, I don't know your ferret's age but there are different illnesses that he could be suffering from. Younger ferrets can have GI signs if you see any vomiting or diarrhea or not wanting to eat. There is also a disease relating to the pancreas where they get low blood sugar despite eating, and that can make them tired. They also may have seizures, so be on the lookout for abnormal activity. i would take him to the vet for some blood work and maybe an x ray to see what is going on. There is nothing I can tell you to do from home for illnesses in a ferret. Good luck, i hope he gets better soon!

His wet back end can be due to diarrhea or an inability to control his bladder or bowel movements. The fact that he is dragging his feet around sounds like he may be paralyzed, but I can’t say for certain without some more information. I would be happy to do a consultation to find out more about what is going on and give you some idea about what may be causing this. If Archie isn’t your pet, I recommend letting his owner know about what is going on and having him evaluated by a vet.
