Elderly cat blind with kidney disease. Should I reevaluate her?

I would guess that Ebony may have had retinal detachment secondary to high blood pressure. Kidney disease can cause increased blood pressure. If her retinas partially reattached she may have regained some vision.

I think the fluid therapy will make her feel much better, and ideally kidneys blood test should be reassessed after 48 hours on aggressive fluid therapy. I know what you mean about cats and stress, but try to make her stay more comfortable by bringing in a home blanket and using feliway spray. If you want to take him to the vet school for another opinion than you should take him there. You would definitely get an expert opinion and be given all possible options available to treat your cat.

This sounds like she may have retinal detachment which can be a result of uncontrolled high blood pressure. The blindness may be permanent. Disorientation, vision and weight loss can all be signs of severe kidney disease and blood pressure or diabetes and i recommend an urgent check up and blood panel to investigate underlying causes. It is hard to know if her vision was affected to cause her to hit her head, or the other way around?

I'm sorry your cat has a retinal detachment. If the retinas remain detached for more than a day or two, the prognosis is poor for a return of normal vision. Therefore, the key to a successful outcome is rapid diagnosis and early administration of the proper medication to lower blood pressure. She should have her blood pressure, blood work and urinalysis checked at least every six months. The doctor may also want to check another test called a urine protein creatine ratio if they are concerned the condition is worsening. This will help you to know what her kidney are doing.
