What tests and care for my senior cat with kidney and pancreatitis?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Manx | Female | spayed | 16 years and 10 months old | 9 lbs

My female mutt cat is 17 y/o & has chronic pancreatitis & kidney failure. She takes 2.5 mg prednisone each day. She also has spinal arthritis. She is now a prescription kidney diet. She drinks a lot and isn't very active. What tests and frequency and what else can I do for her?

She should have her blood pressure, blood work and urinalysis checked at least every six months. The doctor may also want to check another test called a urine protein creatine ratio if they are concerned the condition is worsening. This will help you to know what her kidney are doing. She should get a physical exam every 3 to 4 months unless she seems sick. Then she should be examined at that time. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.
