My 3-month-old kitten won't eat dry. Can I give her human food?

It is important That Pelly eat mostly kitten food. You can certainly supplement with meat/fish but make sure at least 75% of her daily food intake is kitten food. Whiskas is not the highest quality food but if it's your only option, then go for it. Purina, Iams, Eukanuba and Science Diet are all good brands if you can get them. Make sure Pelly is appropriately dewormed to make sure the parasites are not making him too skinny. I hope this helps.

The answer is up to you and your cat. Some cats prefer dry only, some wet only, some enjoy both. Kitten food is still needed at six months of age and will be until he is a year old. Cats are carnivores, and canned, pate-type wet food is the closest to what they would get in the wild. Dry food has to have some carbohydrates in the form of grains or vegetable pulp in order to be made into dry nuggets. Cats have a very low carbohydrate requirement and some gain excess weight on dry food. Feed the best food you can afford. My personal favorites are Science Diet and Royal Canin. Both offer excellent quality, specifically formulated diets that are nutritionally complete for your pet's life stage and condition and both offer money-back guarantees if your pet doesn't like them. Just make sure when switching to a new food to introduce it gradually. Transition your pet onto a new food by offering the old food in one bowl and a mix of 1/4 new food and 3/4 old food in another bowl next to it. Do this for a week, then offer 1/2-1/2 new/old food in the second bowl for a week. Change to 3/4 new-1/4 old for a week and gradually stop putting old food in the first bowl. By the end of the month she should be transitioned to the new food with a minimum of digestive upset.

Royal canin and hills both make wet kitten food in foil pouches and I have had good feedback on the palatability of both of these. Cats can be very fussy eaters and it is not always easy to 'insist' they eat what we try to give them and I would be most concerned that she is getting the right balance of nutrients for kittens to grow and develop and sufficient fluid intake

At two months of age, Zuri is old enough to eat dry food on her own and there is no need to give her dry food with water or milk in it. You can give her wet food as part of her diet or as an occasional treat. I hope this helps :-)

It's definitely good to get her to eat the Whiskas food, because this has necessary nutrients for a kitten that she may not get from the other food. However, the other food has good nutrients and is appropriate for a cat. They also likely taste better than the Whiskas, so that's likely why she is not eating the Whiskas. Getting a cat to eat a food that they don't want is difficult, but there are a few things that you can do to get her to eat. There are lots of Whiskas products so I can't find the specific feeding guidelines for your cat food. There is usually a feeding guideline written on the bag or box of food that you can follow based on their current weight. If you can find this information and still have feeding questions, post a new question or choose a Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach Consult to discuss it further. Whiskas food is fine for cat's that are healthy on it! I do prefer that cats be on wet food instead of dry food as the extra moisture and higher protein content are great for cat nutrition. You may consider switching to canned Whiskas. I usually feed my cats Fancy Feast because that is easily found at my local grocery store. In general, canned cat food comes in 2 can sizes: small and large. I generally recommend feeding 1 small can twice a day for normal sized cats. Since Zoli is still growing, she may not eat the entire can, but you can still offer it to her to eat.

It is completely fine to feed you cat only dry food if that is all she likes. If you want to give her canned food as an occasional treat any brand should be fine.
