Is my dog's crying after surgery pain or just wanting out of her crate?

She is likely in pain, and that my be one way of her trying to alleviate the pain. If your veterinarian gave you pain medicine for her, please administer as prescribed. This was a big abdominal surgery and therefore it will take a few days for her to settle. You may want to to take her bed to a quiet dark room where she can calm down and sleep, and sort of leave her be. Tomorrow morning she should be less prone to scoot. Should this not stop by tomorrow morning, then take her back to the vet for a recheck. If your vet has not prescribed any pain medication, ring him and ask for them.

Poor Bayley. She just need a bit of time to settle down, follow your vet instruction reading meds and she will be better soon. I would wait till this afternoon and if she continues to be unsettled, not eating and lethargic I would have her re-checked. Hi there. Different individuals can respond to anesthesia differently, just like humans. In my experience, it's not uncommon for some pets to be wobbly, confused, or otherwise "out of it" for up to 24 hours or so after an anesthetic event. As long as she's responsive and doesn't seem to be getting worse, this is likely normal. If she's still shaky and crying by tomorrow morning, I would recommend giving your vet a call as she may be painful and need some additional medication to help with this. For tonight, you can sit and snuggle with her if she seems to want this, or leave her alone if she doesn't want to be touched. Make sure she has food and water available if she wants it. Monitor for any bleeding from the incision site, pale gums, or increased weakness or acting less responsive, as these could indicate a more serious problem that needs an ER visit.

Poor pup! It sounds like she may be in pain still or having a hard time recovering from her surgery. I would let your vet know right away so they can either provide a different medication, or have her seen to make sure there isn't an infection or other complication that needs to be addressed.

Just because you were unable to elicit a pain response from Chapman does not necessarily mean he isn't uncomfortable or painful somewhere in the body. I am glad to hear that he seems generally happy and healthy right now and is doing his normal thing. If this continues, you can certainly monitor at home for any other negative symptoms. If the crying or whining continues with consistency for more than a day I would definitely get him checked to make sure nothing serious is going on. Hope this makes sense.

Crying out could be an indication of anxiety or pain in your dog. This may just be a behavioral issue and your pup cries out to get you attention. If these episodes are consistent and increase in frequency then I would recommend having your puppy checked out to make sure there is nothing causing him pain or discomfort. I hope this helps. This could be a side effect of the anesthesia and/or drugs given to Alfie for the procedure but it could also indicate he is in pain. If you cannot reach the veterinarian that did Alfie's surgery I recommend having him seen by an emergency veterinarian to ensure he is not in pain or is having issues with the drugs leaving his system.
