Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 10 lbs

Took Lily to the vet and found that she has bloated stomach 4 times larger than normal and gas is through her intestines as well they do not know why they have given a low dose of an anti-nausea agent any thoughts on what we can do to rid her of the gas or any other thoughts you may have on the problem

Hello sorry to hear about Lilly. Things I would worry about with severely distended GI is a foreign body that may be causing obstruction. Other causes such as an infectious gastritis or enteritis can also cause severe gas. Finally, any inflammation of the GI tract secondary to dietary indiscretions could also cause uniform gas dilation and ileus (decreased GI motility). I would consider rechecking x-rays to compare the pattern of the gas in a couple of hours. Additionally, if Lilly is vomiting or having diarrhea or a decreased appetite, I would recommend having her re-evaluated if the signs persist.

If this is gas alone, although it may be very uncomfortable for Lilly, know that it will pass on its own within several hours. However, if Lilly seems to be doing worse, have her evaluated immediately.

Hope this helps and best of luck.
