DIY outdoor cat house for a mother cat and her newborn kittens?

Many people will use a styrofoam cooler with a hole cut out to hold in the heat. Provide fresh food and water. Make the food a high quality such as Royal Canin, Purina ProPlan or Iams. Certainly you can have this cat vaccinated, treated for parasites and even spay/neutered. Outdoor cats can produce many kittens, they can also act as a source of fleas and intestinal worms, cats who are not fixed can also be more prone to fighting and getting injured. I would keep your boy cat away from the mother and kittens. Keep him indoors for now. Put food and water under your porch for the mother. She needs a kitten formulated food to help support nursing. I'd put some blankets under there as well to help keep them warm. If you can catch them, bring them indoors into their own room with food, water, a litter box, and a nesting box. Best of luck.

Mother cats usually teach their kittens how to use a litter box by example. So, if she is using the kitten's litter box, she is likely trying to teach them to use it as well. I would not discourage her from using the box as it may cause her or the kittens to start having accidents in the house instead. If you are planning on having the kittens be outdoor cats like their mother, then making sure they are vaccinated and old enough to go outside first is best. They can then follow their mother and explore outside more to learn to do their business outside as well.

I would set up a warm bed for them, and put in something like a hot water bottle covered in towels. They are just over four weeks old, and while it's time for them to wean, they are probably better with their mother. If the temperatures keep dropping, however, I would move them indoors.

How lovely of you to look after these kittens! Your first option is to take them into the SPCA. They can get them checked out by a vet and find them a home for them. You could bring them inside when it's cold at night, but keep them in their own room separate from your dog. Make sure they have a litter box, food, and water in their room. I would recommend to keep her indoors only since she is due to have the kittens any day now. Allow her to have plenty of space away from the other cats so that she can be undisturbed by them for a period of time if she chooses to be. Nesting boxes are great, but ultimately she will choose to whelp wherever she is most comfortable. Clean, quiet areas where she can be away from the other cats is best. Your granny sounds very sweet! Don't worry cats are very good mothers and do very well to look after their young. You could certainly put a blanket down for the kittens though. Just keep an eye that mummy and kittens look healthy. I would consider getting the kittens neutered in a few months to avoid breeding.
