What are the best ways to comfort my mother cats and their kittens?

I would move Sandy and her kittens into her own room with a nesting box, and keep the door closed. Make sure she has food, water, and a litter box. This will allow her to focus more closely on her kittens.

Congratulations on your new kittens! the mother doesn't necessarily need to be in the dark, but she should have a quiet place where she feels safe to care for her kittens, especially if she is a first time mom. For this reason, if you have a separate room where she can stay or visit it may be best for the first week or two to keep her in this room when she is with the kittens so she doesn't feel threatened or nervous about her kittens coming to harm.

If she loves being comforted, simply spending time together can help! Lots of pets, cuddles, etc. If you can't be there to comfort her, making sure she has a place she can rest that is comfy and cozy, or a perch up high she can watch people from can help. Hiding treats or toys can also encourage her to explore and stay busy and enriched as well.

Hello. Make sure your Momma cat has a quiet, safe & secure area to have her kittens, away from noise, other pets, & weather. You can begin feeding her a good kitten food ( dry or canned ) and continue the kitten food up until the kittens are weaned . I would put Mamma in her own room with the kittens and give them as much space as possible. Make sure she has food, water, and a litter box. Check on them only once a day to make sure things are going well with her and her kittens. It sounds like you may be a bit of a distraction for her, so leaving her alone with the kittens and having them be her only focus may help with this situation. I hope this helps!

Newborn kittens cannot regulate their body temperature, so the room they are kept in must be quite warm, between 88-92F. Keep them completely separate from the other cats, mother cats can be very protective of their kittens, and she may attack the other cats if they come to investigate the kittens. Best of luck.

This is very unfortunate, I'm sorry to hear your momma cat has lost her kittens. I would suspect that there was something affecting the mother that infected the kittens in utero. There is probably not much you can do to save the 2 remaining kittens at this point. You may want to consider taking them to the vet to be checked out and see if it is something treatable. At home just continue doing your best by supplementing their feedings if necessary, stimulating them to potty if the momma is not, and keep them warm and dry. I hope this helps.
