Is colloidal silver safe for cats' ear infections, skin, or colds?

Silver can be useful for clearing up skin issues, but I haven't use it alone to deal with ear infections. Ear infections need topical (in the ear) antibiotics to clear up. It's not clear from your question if you're giving the silver orally or topically. I am not aware of an oral use for silver. Unfortunately, it's really hard to clear up ear infections without being able to take a cat to the veterinarian. If possible, I would recommend catching him (in a trap if needed) at night and taking him to the clinic the next morning. There are long lasting ear medication that could work better in this situation. I would recommending asking your vet ahead of time if they carry one of those long lasting options in case he needs it. First of all, it does interact (and decrease the effectiveness of) certain antibiotics so if she is an antibiotic, the answer is probably no. Second, there are reports of kidney damage from the use of colloidal silver in people. As cats are more at risk for kidney disease anyways, I am always a little hesitant about it. Last, long term consistent use can be associated with metal toxicity (rare). All that being said, a conservative dose from a knowledgeable holistic vet for a short time is likely safe. The problem is that ear infections in cats can also be caused by yeast and bacteria in addition to ear mites, so this may not be the right medication for their ear infection. The best thing to do is take them into the vet to have it confirmed they have an ear infection and what is causing it so they can be treated correctly.

I can certainly understand your frustration. I would highly recommend not putting CBD oil in your cats ear however. If the eardrum is still ruptured, then nothing but sterile saline should be introduced inside the ear, because anything else can negatively affect her nervous system (balance, coordination, etc). Also there is no evidence that CBD oil will do anything for an ear infection unfortunately. However, I think you should get additional testing done if your kitty isn't doing better. If an inner ear infection is present, this will be evident by a physical otoscopic exam of the ear, to confirm a ruptured ear drum, and a skull radiograph to detect fluid build-up in the inner ear. If an inner ear infection is present then oral antibiotcs, and sterile saline topically, should be able to resolve the infection. In some cases a bacterial culture of the ear needs to be done to determine which antibiotic will clear the infection successfully. This is potentially something serious such as a severe infection or abscess in the region of the eyes, a tumor, among other possibilities. I highly recommend that you have him evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible as this is likely causing him pain and making him feel uncomfortable. They would be able to evaluate the eyes and surrounding structures carefully to see what seems to be the root of his issues so that therapy can be recommended accordingly. Best of luck!

You should continue antibiotics unless directed otherwise by your veterinarian. Pneumonia can be life threatening and could get much worse if antibiotics are stopped. Colloidal silver can accumulate in organs if given orally and cause heavy metal toxicity. I would not recommend starting colloidal silver without first talking to your veterinarian.
