Is colloidal silver effective for a stray cat's ear infection?

I can certainly understand your frustration. I would highly recommend not putting CBD oil in your cats ear however. If the eardrum is still ruptured, then nothing but sterile saline should be introduced inside the ear, because anything else can negatively affect her nervous system (balance, coordination, etc). Also there is no evidence that CBD oil will do anything for an ear infection unfortunately. However, I think you should get additional testing done if your kitty isn't doing better. If an inner ear infection is present, this will be evident by a physical otoscopic exam of the ear, to confirm a ruptured ear drum, and a skull radiograph to detect fluid build-up in the inner ear. If an inner ear infection is present then oral antibiotcs, and sterile saline topically, should be able to resolve the infection. In some cases a bacterial culture of the ear needs to be done to determine which antibiotic will clear the infection successfully. If the antibiotics are helping, it's probably a middle ear infection indeed. a sample needs to be taken from the ear and sent for culture and sensitivity, then the best antibiotic can be chosen according to the result. the course of treatment must be longer next time, at least 4 weeks as these infections take a long time to resolve.

Hi. I am sorry miss jewels has an ear infection. If you are unable to Medicare topically in to the ears, you can discuss with your veterinarian doing all oral treatment instead of topical. Oral antibiotics if bacterial, and antifungal if it's a yeast infection. If it is painful, you can get a pain medication as well. They can give you some pointers on giving oral medications and restraining w one person. Also, try pill pockets. They are soft treats with a hole for the pill. Then the hole squeezes closed. Hi, I am sorry to hear about Sparrow's ear. The inside of his ear looks clean as you have shown in the picture. The back/base of his ear unfortunately looks quite infected. It is great that you are keeping the Ecollar on to prevent him from scratching the ear. Sometimes topical treatment alone will not be able to heal this type of infection. The area looks very moist, either from infection or the ointment(s) that are being applied. Typically when cats have an infected area on their skin, we want the area dry and do not put on topical treatments. This wound would most likely heal very quickly with a visit to Sparrow's veterinarian. The doctor can clip and clean the wound with medical grade gentle cleansing solution and get Sparrow on antibiotics. The antibiotics (which needs a doctor prescription) is the main treatment to get this to heal. I cannot recommend any further over the counter treatments that would allow this to heal. I am sorry about that. I would recommend to keep him indoors only, keep the ecollar on, and hold off on the ointment so the area can dry up. The veterinary appointment can hopefully happen soon and Sparrow will be on his way to healing quickly. Best of luck.

Bite wounds are often worse under the surface of the skin than they appear externally. I'm glad to hear that Alfred does not appear to be forming a swollen abscess, but he probably should receive a course of antibiotics from his vet. You can try keeping the open wounds clean with an antiseptic soap (such as Betadine or Chlorhexidine), but avoid putting hydrogen peroxide on the wounds. Be sure to keep Alfred from scratching at the wound and put an e-collar on him if necessary. I hope that all goes well!
