My cat is suddenly wobbly and can't hold her head up. How serious?

It is quite possible he has suffered a head or high spinal injury but a 'broken neck' is unlikely given the fact he is mobile and able to move. The clear blood results are positive and although an MRI or CT scan may provide additional information, if he is eating, mobile and able to toilet normally then rest and TLC may be enough to promote recovery. Hills make a specialist b/d diet may help with brain and neurological health and speed recovery, acupuncture may also be worth considering

Certainly the cuts/scratches/wounds need to be considered infected and antibiotics or appropriate disinfection is required. The vomiting episode may be related to head trauma together with the twitching as well. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to rule out these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Calicovirus can cause many symptoms but balance loss is very concerning. I recommend a revisit to your vet, a full blood panel to rule out any internal issues and an ear exam to ensure this is not affecting her balance

Head tilt could be caused by deep inner ear infection (or polyp), stroke, infection such as toxoplasmosis, stroke, or even tumor although that would be rare at her age. If the toxo test comes back normal then I would consider requesting a referral to a neurologist where an MRI of the brain can be done. If that is not possible then I would trial treat with antibiotics and steroids. I am so sorry that she is going through this. I am sure you are very worried. The next steep would be a test for toxoplasmosis and an x-ray of the head. She could still have an inner ear infection. Unfortunately should als suffer from a brain tumor. You may want to get a referral to a veterinary neurologist..

The signs you describe can be caused by an irregularity in the spine - this may cause the bones to compress the actual spinal cord, damaging the nerves that are responsible for controlling the back legs and tail. A veterinary neurologist would be able to further diagnose the condition and propose a treatment plan, your original vet may be able to recommend one. I am so sorry to hear this. Based on what you are describing I would assume that the head trauma Dada sustained has caused swelling on the brain. This would account for the neurological symptoms you are seeing. Unfortunately cats with head trauma need intensive nursing care, special IV medications to help decrease the swelling, and possible oxygen therapy.
