My cat's poop is white, large, and bloody. What could be the cause?

It is possible that this particular stool was difficult to pass and you helping to remove it may have caused a small amount of bleeding from the rectal tissue. Cats can become constipated, and if she has been passing less stool than usual, straining to defecate and had a decreased appetite I would recommend seeing a veterinarian. There are some other things that can cause blood in the stool as well including intestinal parasites, colitis or even inflammatory bowel disease. If the blood is persistent you should make an appointment to see your veterinarian as well.

Pale, white, or gray stools may be indicators of liver disease or intestinal bacterial infections. You may want to take a stool sample as well as your cat, if the stool does not normalize over the next few days or of your kitty appears ill. The vet may want to do blood work to make sure the liver is functioning properly. If so then it is likely that your kitty has an intestinal infection that will require antibiotics to clear up.

Hello, I assume you mean Tom’s feces are white? If that is the case, I recommend having him seen by a vet, and also taking a fecal sample from Tom in to your vet so that they can examine it and treat as needed. Good luck!

Bloody stools can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Smokey evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hello. An occasional bit of blood in the stool is nothing to be overly concerned about, but having larger stools & being a bit thin is a little concerning. This may be an indication of some type of food intolerance. The first thing to try is switching Willow off any fish based foods, canned & dry. This means checking bags of food because many times a diet that is meat based will sneak in some form of fish meal into the ingredients. I had the same difficulty with one of my cats & this improved him tremendously. Give this a few weeks & see if you notice any difference. Blood in the stool can occur secondary to food sensitivity, but it can also be a sign of parasites or even occur secondary to stress, so I'd recommend seeing your veterinarian first to rule out these medical problems. Unfortunately if you're switching foods frequently it can be difficult to determine which is or isn't helping, so if your vet recommends a food trial you should stick to one specific food for at least 6 to 8 weeks before deciding if it is or isn't helping.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Fig! A diet change absolutely can be a cause of bloody stool. Blood in the stool indicates inflammation in the colon. Other possible causes are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, stress. I would change her back to the original food and hopefully the blood goes away. If the blood persists for the next 2 days I would have her examine by your Vet before the holidays.
