The discoloration in their stool most likely was from mucous in combination with their normal stool color. It can make the stool appear lighter in color and is caused by inflammation in the colon. It sounds like this was a temporary, minor problem and everything is back on track for your kitties. Happy to hear. I would recommend to take a sample of stool from the litter box to your veterinarian so they can check for any parasites in the stool.

I would be surprised if your cats both had liver disease and the only symptom was grey discolored stool. While technically liver and gallbladder disease can result in grey stool I’ve never seen it occur in practice. If you’re concerned or if your kitties begin vomiting, have a decrease in appetite, or develop diarrhea you could see your vet to have them check blood work.
